About Upstairs at Landrace
Upstairs at Landrace is a modern British restaurant in Bath, on the floor above Landrace Bakery at 59 Walcot St. The kitchen builds its British menu around seasonal ingredients and makes its sourdough and pasta by hand from stoneground UK grains. The drinks list focuses on natural wines and regional ciders, so the glass follows the same local, small-scale approach as the plate. The restaurant opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Criticism is smaller but specific. One diner found the toast with girolles tasted of herbs rather than girolles and the ragu overwhelmed by rosemary, wishing the bread had come a little warm. Another says staff could be more attentive, such as refilling empty glasses, and that food service was slow. Several advise booking in advance. One reviewer left planning a trip around Bath to return, and another went to the bakery the next morning for pastries.

“This place is an absolute treat from start to finish. Came here on a Monday for a belated birthday dinner, the restaurant was moderately busy even that early in the week! Definitely book in advance! Massive shout out to our server Hettie who spoke about every dish with genuine enthusiasm and recommended an absolutely banging wine. Stand out dishes were the chilled almond soup which was so complex and flavourful, and the perfectly balanced peach pavlova. Will definitely be returning!”

“Incredible!!! Service and food were both amazing! My sister and I sat at the bar and had several questions about the menu. Our server was knowledgeable and very attentive throughout our meal. We shared five dishes and each got two glasses of wine. Each dish was explained and wine suggestions were spot on! One of the best meals I have had, and I live for eating! I am already trying to plan a vacation around Bath in the future just to go back to Landrace! I went to the bakery the morning after we had dinner to get pastries and bread. They were equally delicious! Highly recommend!!! Thanks for such a wonderful experience.”

“A local favourite that’s well worth a visit. I walked here from my hotel, and Bath is small enough to explore on foot. Summer is definitely the best season to visit. The restaurant has daily specials, so don’t forget to ask the staff for their recommendations. If possible, choose a table on the second floor. The atmosphere is much better.”

“I visited in my 1st night in Bath. The food is amazing. Simple ingredients done well!! I had Hettie as my server and she amazing. She is very knowledgeable about the food, where it’s sourced and how it’s made. I even let her pair my courses with wine. She did an outstanding job!”

“Amazing food and service. I come here every once in a while, and I always leave with new ideas for my own cooking! I love that every time the menu is different, and I get to try new dishes. Recommended for a dinner out with someone or by yourself. 🙌🙌”
