About The Beckford Bottle Shop
On Saville Row in Bath, The Beckford Bottle Shop is a wine-focused restaurant and bistro next door to its own wine merchant, at 5-8 Saville Row. The bistro pours over thirty wines by the glass, so a table can sample several bottles' worth of variety without committing to one. Its small plates have won a Michelin bib-gourmand, and the dishes reach the table staggered rather than all at once. Charcuterie and artisan cheese boards sit alongside them as an option for sharing over a glass. The team advises on wine and menu choices. The building is an old one near the Assembly Rooms, and the kitchen serves both lunch and dinner.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the small plates, naming venison bavette with courgette fritters, pork belly, anchovies on toast, English peas on focaccia and Cornish hake with carrot purée. Desserts draw repeated mention too, with the rhubarb crème brûlée and rhubarb cheesecake both singled out, and one reviewer recommends the charcuterie board. Close behind is the wine, with a huge selection, knowledgeable staff offering recommendations, and a Touriga Nacional and a Chilean Viognier described as well chosen. Several reviewers call the servers friendly and attentive, though one thought the portions small but rich, and another found the staff busy and hands-off. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who called the service terrible: they were told on arrival to leave by 7.30, saw a different server each time, had drinks orders forgotten, and felt staff were more focused on setting up extra tables. One birthday diner was brought an extra dessert unprompted, remembered from when the table was booked.

“Could not recommend more! Food and wine were impeccable. The selection on the cheese and charcuterie boards were delicious, and special shout out for the desserts (the rhubarb cheesecake was unreal!) Great service and vibes, perfect for a lunch or dinner.”

“Toby offered such a lovely service and made me feel the most welcome, his other colleagues working “Sabrina and Rebecca” also made this experience extra special. The atmosphere and vibe of the place is addictive. Very classy, old money vibes. 100% be here again. And it’s a place I would keep recommending to all my acquaintances. Thanks again:)”

“Went for a great celebratory lunch. Knowledgeable staff who helped advise some great wine and absolutely delicious food. We had Pork Belly, Fish sandwich, Bacon Jam Potatoes, and Asparagus. They were all incredible. Have already recommended to friends and family! Will certainly be back!”

“A characterful wine bar in a lovely old Bath building near the Assembly Rooms, and a strong choice if wine is your priority. The list is well-curated and interesting. I had a Vale da Mata Touriga Nacional at around £10, my partner a Chilean Viognier at £8.75, both well chosen. The staff were busy and hands-off for the most part, but when I asked one to track down a wine label for a photo, he went out of his way to help. A few cobwebs suggested the cleaning doesn't always reach the corners. A pleasant early evening visit overall, and easy to recommend to fellow wine lovers.”

“Lovely food in a nice atmosphere but terrible service. Greeted with 'you need to leave by 7.30', even though told before next group was at 8.15, never the same server, forgotten drinks orders and more interested in setting up extra tables than focusing on those who were there. Toilets were disgusting - swimming in water. Food is good but the serving team let the excellent work of the kitchen down.”
