About Chez Dominique
Chez Dominique is a family-owned modern European restaurant on Argyle St in Bath, serving Modern French cooking alongside wider European dishes. Lunch runs on a set menu, and the evening moves to an à la carte list, with specials added at both services. The kitchen works with locally sourced produce. Starters include scallops with chorizo cream sauce, and the leek and Gruyère risotto and the pork chop sit among the other dishes. At certain times of year the set menu also extends into the early evening, so it is worth checking directly with the restaurant for those dates. A private dining room is available for groups, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the food, with the set price menu praised as good value and dishes such as the pork loin and chop, scallops with chorizo cream, and the Leek and Gruyère risotto named repeatedly for being delicious. Close behind is the service, described as welcoming, attentive and relaxed without hurrying, including one waiter who helped find suitable dishes for an unwell relative. Also mentioned are the monkfish carpaccio, Ras Al Hanout chicken, corn soup, oyster mushroom pasta and a plum clafoutis that one reviewer called a real highlight. The small, intimate room suits a romantic evening, and one couple felt alone at a window table for two. Criticism is mild but specific. One diner found it a European brasserie rather than French, missing frogs legs, escargot, Beef Bourguignon and Coq au Vin, and wanted more vegetables with the pork chop. Another found everything just ok on one visit, and a birthday party felt service was slightly slow when busy. One reviewer shared a friend's chocolate dessert at lunch.

“What can I say about Chez Dominique? This cosy restaurant in Bath gave us a warm welcome, even though we arrived without a reservation. I particularly appreciated the waiter’s thoughtfulness in helping find suitable dishes for my uncle, who was unwell. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the plum clafoutis was a real highlight — simply scrumptious. Reasonable prices for the quality of the cooking, and caring service that made the evening all the more enjoyable.”

“Birthday meal — a fantastic two-course meal from start to finish. Our host was excellent, incredibly welcoming, attentive, and genuinely went above and beyond to provide great service. 4 stars for service as I do feel it was slightly slow at points, please note it was fairly busy. The food was fantastic, and the whole experience made for a really enjoyable birthday meal. Would definitely recommend!”

“Great food, but lacking in French theme and menu options. What we have here is a European brasserie, not a little slice of France in Bath. That said, couldn’t fault the food itself. I had the scallops to start. Lovely plump morsels with a chorizo cream sauce. Delicious. Then a big pork chop. The homemade apple sauce purée was excellent. I would have liked additional veg and garnish on the plate but the meat was soft and the flavour - again like butter. But my main criticism is the menu. Where are the frogs legs, the escargot, Beef Bourguignon, Coq au Vin etc. Yes - this place is missing a key element, and that element is Francium.”
