A clean directory of local businesses

We aggregate publicly available business information and organise it into clean, browseable pages. A user looking for restaurants in Sheffield, coffee shops in Chicago, or hair salons in London gets the same uncluttered experience: the basics first, sources cited, no sign-up walls.

Local search is broken. Generic directories bury essentials behind popups, modal sign-up gates, and rows of indistinguishable ads. We chose the opposite: at most one ad slot per page, no email-capture popups, no “upgrade to see hours” gates. Just the information you came for, presented well.

BusinessesMap is published by BusinessesMap, Inc., which is responsible for everything on it — the listing data, the written descriptions, and the ranking order. Corrections, removal requests and complaints about any listing go to contact@businessesmap.com and are handled by a person, not a queue.

The facts on a listing — name, address, hours, phone, category, rating, review count and review text — are taken from the business’s public profile and are not rewritten by us. The written parts, meaning the short description of the business and the summary of what reviewers mention, are produced automatically by a language model from those same facts, then checked by automated rules before the page can be published.

We do this because the alternative at this scale is worse for the reader. A directory covering thousands of businesses either writes nothing, and leaves every page as a bare table of fields, or copies marketing copy from elsewhere. Generating a plain-language summary from the listing's facts gives a reader something to actually read, without inventing anything that is not in the source data. The rules a description must pass before publication reject any claim that cannot be traced to the underlying data, any invented staff name, and any first-hand experience we have not had. Nothing on this site is a first-hand review; we have not visited, called, or transacted with the businesses listed.

• Public data, source-cited. Listings are compiled from publicly available business profiles and refreshed on a recurring schedule.
• Transparent ranking. Every list is built from public data and can be sorted by rating or review count — and no business can pay for placement.
• Owner-friendly. Business owners can claim, edit, or remove any listing at any time, free of charge.

We do not publish paid placements, sponsored rankings, or hidden affiliate recommendations. When advertising appears on the Service it is clearly labelled and served by Google AdSense. Rankings and descriptions are independent of advertising.

The Service currently covers the United Kingdom and the United States, across restaurants, cafes, bars, beauty and hair. New cities and categories are added continuously; if a listing in your area is missing, you can request it via the claim form.
