About Robun
Robun is a yakiniku restaurant in Bath at 4 George St, named as a tribute to the Japanese author Kanagaki Robun and his 1872 book Seiyō ryōritsū, which introduced Western barbecue to Japan. The kitchen cooks meats, seafood and vegetables on a robata grill and serves them as sharing plates, with Japanese, Korean and Chinese influences running through the menu. A seafood bento box sits among the dishes, and the drinks list covers cocktails, wines, Japanese whiskeys and a Fun Fu mocktail. The Japanese Afternoon Tea service combines dishes from the menu with Japanese teas, so a visit can happen outside a standard dinner. Reservations are required. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Bento boxes draw the warmest praise, with a seafood bento admired for its mix of fish and vegetable pieces, a miso soup one reviewer found surprisingly tasty, and another diner pairing a bento with ramen. Close behind are shared plates of sushi, chicken gyozas, duck spring rolls, bao and kimchi fried rice, along with wasabi fries and the Fun Fu mocktail. Several arrived on Groupon or First Table deals and found the value strong, though one calls the a la carte pricing a bit high for what arrives. The recurring complaint is beef: a wagyu hanging tender with no marbling that took around 20 chews, and tough beef on a voucher set menu. That voucher menu gave a fixed set of starters and only three mains, and those diners found the dishes disappointing until they asked for plates from the full menu, which were great. Elsewhere, sides arrived before starters. Staff are described as friendly, and one birthday table was brought a mochi.

“Second time we've been here, the food is fresh and delicious and the service is timely, attentive and friendly. Relaxed atmosphere, but high quality food and delicious drinks. I love this Japanese/European fusion food. Beautifully presented and tasty too. I particularly wanted to post today because we went as a family and without disclosing sensitive info, I just want to say how wonderful the blonde waitress/front of house lady was because she was incredibly kind and supportive towards my youngest child - thank you for your empathy today, it was greatly appreciated.”

“We booked this restaurant through First Table and it was our first time using the app. I’m pleased that we had, as I don’t think I would have been happy to pay full price for everything here. The experience is the same as Wagamama’s which we weren’t expecting. Our sides for our main course came out before our starters! The wasabi fries were very nice. Our waitress Bea made the experience for us, as she was very professional and welcoming. Bea allowed us to try the wines before we settled on one, but the wine menu wasn’t for us.”

“Wow! What a lovely place! Exceptional food was freshly prepared and beautifully presented - we had a wonderful mix of plates and shared edamame beans, chicken gyozas, sushi, sliders, the most incredible cha sui pork and duck spring rolls. Will absolutely return! A beautiful space too - well lit, excellent drinks menu ❤️”

“A Groupon brought me to Robun and I'm so pleased it did. The Sea food Bento box had a great selection of fish and veggie bits. I was really pleasantly surprised by the must soup which was so tasty. Best Bento box I've had and the cocktail was also very good.”
