About The Botanist Bath

The Botanist Bath is a botanical-themed restaurant and bar at 46a Milsom St in Bath, built around a large artificial tree at the centre of the room. A ceiling window adds to the plant-inspired decor, and seating is split between the bar area and an upstairs level. The menu features hanging kebabs, including a chicken kebab and a lamb kofta hanging kebab, with halloumi fries and onion rings as sides. Roast dinners come with endless gravy and Yorkshire puddings. Behind the bar, the team makes cocktails and mojitos, along with watermelon mocktails, and draught beers and wine are also poured. House bands play live music at the venue, which gives groups a reason to settle in after the meal.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the hanging kebab, with the lamb kofta version recommended alongside soy and sweet chilli sauce, and a hanging chicken kebab with halloumi fries also praised. Close behind is the large tree at the centre of the room, which several describe as a striking centrepiece, along with the botanical decor and the ceiling window. Also mentioned are fish and chips with belly pork bites and onion rings, a mojito, refreshing watermelon mocktails, a lunch menu called reasonably priced, and endless gravy and Yorkshire puddings with Sunday roasts. Servers are described as polite and helpful with menu and meat recommendations. The main criticism comes from one afternoon tea visit, where staff were a little slow with drinks. One reviewer was told the restaurant was full on a Friday evening and was offered a table around the bar to eat instead, and another was advised to book even for drinks only. One anniversary diner was given two complimentary ice creams served in little plant pots.

“The food was delicious and the staff were lovely. The decor was like bringing the outside in with the large tree in the centre. We recommend the lamb kofta hanging kebab. The sauce was to die for... soy and sweet chilli sauce recommended by our server.”

“Much smaller than anticipated but vey vibrant. The huge artificial tree is a lovely centrepiece to the bar and restaurant. It was great to just sit and people watch and admire the cocktail making. Advised to book in advance even if just having drinks. Exactly as represented in First Dates.”

“It was absolutely amazing!!! The restaurant itself is stunning, with a huge breathtaking tree at the centre that instantly catches your attention. The ceiling window is beautiful, and I truly loved the botanical atmosphere throughout the space, every detail felt thoughtful and elegant. We had a lovely dinner there to celebrate our anniversary and sat upstairs, where the view was wonderful. The food was fresh, delicious, and satisfying without feeling too heavy afterwards. The waiter was incredibly kind and professional, and we were even given two adorable complimentary ice creams served in little plant pots!!! Such a sweet surprise that added even more happiness to our celebration. Thank you so much for such an unforgettable experience, definitely a place worth coming back to!”

“A planned visit, booked ahead a few months ago for lunch. Avid watchers of the First Dates TV show, and we had previously visited the Patter Noster Chop house in London, so wanted to experience this restaurant also. And it did not disappoint!! Greeted by a smiling and professional member of staff, who showed us to our table upstairs. We were the first in I think as booking was at noon. Had time to look around the beautiful decor and get some nice photos and a video. Ordered a mojito, delicious! Then got the hanging chicken kebab with halloumi fries. Everything was great, we had a lovely time, thank you!”
