Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come back to the food, from a Sunday lunch with a choice of pork, beef, lamb or vegetarian to a baked potato with beef and salad, with the chips singled out for praise. Close behind is the canal-side setting at Trent Lock, with outside seating, river views and live music, and a welcome for dogs both inside and out. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, with good banter at the bar, and the real ales and ciders draw praise, including a good selection for designated drivers. The decor gets attention too, from steam punk sculptures to half a dalek. Not everyone is won over. One reviewer found a cheese baguette and a bowl of chips only standard for what they cost, and another said the real ale selection was small and their pint was not kept well. One diner mentions the chef coming out to ask how the meal was.

“Quieter pub with history and alot of cool stuff to look at. Filled with information and heritage of local area. Food is lovely and drinks and atmosphere is good. Dog friendly and kid friendly too. Again beautiful views of the river and surroundings”

“We initially tried the nearby cafe, but it felt cramped and we only saw gluten products on their menu. Service was slow. So we came to this pub, hungry and ready to warm up. Initially it looked empty, we tried the right hand door. Then we tried the left hand door, and were warmly greeted by lovely welcoming bar staff, a wood burning stove and a great menu full of homemade dishes. Rob ordered the Hunter’s chicken and chips, and I ordered a baked potato with beef and salad. Both were absolutely delicious. We can deffo recommend the chips! The chef checked in to ask how the meal was, and we were genuinely happy with the quality and price. Thanks very much. Quirky decorations include half a dalek too!”

“Nice setting with decent outside seating. Friendly staff. Didn't eat so can't comment. Real ale selection small and my choice of ale was not kept well. Didn't really enjoy it. Shame, I was looking forward to my stop here during a long bike ride.”

“They cater very well for drivers with a good selection of better quality alcohol beers, the designated driver will be well looked after.”
