Customer Review Summary
Reviewers single out the hawk stone pie and the huge portions of lunch, with food arriving quickly. Several describe friendly staff, a welcoming landlord, and a warm reception for dogs. The main complaint is that a lunch deal of hunters chicken arrived as two breadcrumb gougons in baguette slices, and one steak pie was mostly pastry. One reviewer was told Sunday dinner was booking only.

“Me and my partner went in for the hawk stone pie. Walked in and the lovely barmaid seated us by the fire and got us our drinks. We ordered the food which came out quickly and then the landlord asked if the food was good. Both of us enjoyed it and had a chat with him for a good 10 minutes. The most pleasant man running a great pub and has a great staff team behind him too. Will definitely be returning, being made welcome was something we didn’t really get from other pubs in the village.”

“I stopped here for lunch after a morning at an agility show and was really impressed. The food was delicious and arrived quickly, and the staff were all friendly and welcoming. The portions are huge – I couldn't even finish mine! I had my Border Collie with me and it was great to find somewhere so dog friendly. Ripley was made to feel very welcome, which always makes a difference when you're travelling with a dog. There was a lovely atmosphere throughout my visit, and I'd definitely stop here again if I'm in the area. Highly recommended. 🐾”

“Popped in hoping for Sunday dinner, told it was booking only. Decided to stay and had steak pie. Sorry to say it was nothing like last time I went, I'm guessing before it changed hands. It was generic stuff, tasted ok but 90% pastry and …”

“A disappointing, so-so experience. We ordered a Lunch Deal: hunters chicken (½ a chicken breast, chips and salad) but instead we were given two gougons - slim bits of breadcrumb with a sliver of chicken inside, served in baguette slices, …”
