About The Horse & Jockey

The Horse & Jockey is a pub in Nottingham at 20 Nottingham Rd, with 11 basic rooms upstairs for overnight stays and shared bathrooms. Real ales are served from the pump, with a large selection to choose from, and the pub is Camra-recognised. The food centres on pork pies, scotch eggs and freshly made cobs, part of a 15-dish menu that also includes tapas and The Jockey Special. A pizza night runs in the pub, and live piano adds music. Plenty of tables give guests room to sit, and dogs are welcome. There is no car park, but parking is available nearby.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the real ales on the pump, describing a big, well kept selection with local choices, and one names Neepsend Double Century as perfect. Several mention the pub's Camra recognition, and others call it a proper, friendly local with good staff, plenty of tables and a welcome for dogs. Food comes close behind, with pizza night, tapas and a creme brulee after dinner with live piano all getting praise. Several also stayed overnight and describe clean, comfortable rooms with a TV, tea and coffee and a small fridge, plus good value and very little noise from the bar below. The shared bathrooms were judged clean and enough in number. The one recurring drawback is that the pub has no car park, though reviewers say parking nearby is easy. One guest closes on the pleasant walk through the Erewash valley right by the pub.

“I found myself in Staplegord for an evening and fancied a good pint so was delighted to stumble upon this Camera recommended pub. Great place, delicious beer and inexpensive pizza. Turned out nice again.”
  • Britta Granow
“A lot of real ales from the pump, nice staff, good atmosphere - no wonder they're Camra-awarded multiple times. Funny smoking area. Unfortunately it has no car park but you can park nearby. We also stayed overnight and the room was good and clean, with TV, coffee/tea stuff and even a small fridge. Bathrooms are shared but there are enough and they were clean. Reasonable prices for beer and room. We enjoyed our stay.”
  • Philip Smith
