About The Salt Barge
The Salt Barge is a canal-side pub on Ollershaw Ln in the village of Marston, Northwich, opposite the Lion Salt Works and close to the Trent & Mersey canal, with a spot to moor for people arriving by boat. Live music plays on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, and acoustic sets run every Sunday. The bar pours real ales from local breweries, including Tatton Brewery and Salopian Brewery beers, alongside craft keg beer, the usual lagers and ciders, and several alcohol free options. A games room holds a pool table and a darts board, and the televisions show live sport with Motown playing in the background. The pub serves drinks only for now, and it is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the real ales from local breweries, with Tatton Best named as one reviewer's favourite alongside a Salopian beer, and others mention well kept real ales, a craft keg beer, and a good cider selection. Several describe a friendly welcome, with the bar staff called jolly, chatty and welcoming, and one party said the staff could not do enough for them. The atmosphere comes up repeatedly as relaxing and chilled out, with live sport and Motown music in the background that reviewers found neither overpowering nor overwhelming. Close behind are the games room with a pool table and darts board, the dog friendly welcome, and the position near the canal and the Lion Salt Works, which boaters find handy for mooring. The main caveat is the kitchen, which several reviewers found closed, though one praised the food at a festival. A reviewer also said the road at the back to the car park needs sorting. One boating party was allowed a takeaway and given cutlery and plates despite the closed kitchen.

“So very friendly and even though the kitchen was closed, they allowed us to get a takeaway and provided cutlery and plates - as we were on a boat trip, we had no car to go elsewhere. Lovely and warm too.”

“Kitchen was closed but the pub was nice although the road at back to car park needs sorting. The girl behind the bar was jolly and friendly ,will definitely go back again”

“Popped into this interesting old pub on my travels. Only had a half which did the job. It’s directly opposite the old Lyon’s salt works. Fairly big inside and well done out. It’s pretty cosy. There’s a games room with a good pool table and darts board. The building probably has a great history but I couldn’t get to the bottom of it on my brief visit. The young lady behind the bar was very friendly and chatty. Dog friendly. The kitchen isn’t up and running as of yet but hopefully will soon. The carpark is big and flat enough for a van stop over but you’ll have to ring ahead as they won’t take anything bigger than a transporter or transit size. I any call again if they let me stay one… 🚐 🍻”
