About Plough Inn
Plough Inn is a pub on Beauty Bank in Northwich, first mentioned as an inn in 1869 and a beer house before that. It sits just off the Whitegate Way, and dogs are welcome. The kitchen cooks a beef and ale pie, a Sunday roast dinner with roast chicken among the options, and fish crumble as one of its mains. Fish and chips are on the menu too, along with vegetarian and vegan dishes. The building has a bar room and a separate restaurant, so drinkers and diners each have their own space. Real log fires burn in an open fireplace in the dining area.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is the dish reviewers raise most. One calls the roast chicken very nice, another praises great portions and a seat by the open fire, and a third found the roast nice but short on gravy. Close behind is the steak and ale pie, described by one as a wall of tender steak, with another diner recommending the beef and ale pie. Others single out the black pudding starter, the ham crumble and the fish crumble, and several describe friendly, attentive staff and plentiful portions. The complaints centre on food and service lapses. One party found the rump steak a poor cut, said the assistant manager was dismissive, and reported the head chef telling the manager to refund them and not let them come back. Another waited on a cauliflower cheese that never arrived despite asking twice. A burger came well done with no medium rare option, and the scampi was mostly peas. Fish and chips diners had to chase staff for tartare sauce, then received the tiniest portion.

“Had a fantastic Sunday roast here yesterday. Great portions, beautifully cooked and fair prices. Was lovely sitting by by the open fire and the staff were attentive and friendly but not overbearing. Desserts were also top notch. Can’t wait to come back!”

“A frequent favourite either alone or with friends and family. Great atmosphere in both the bar room and the restaurant, and the outdoor tables are great too. In terms of price point, I've never been disappointed by spending the extra it costs to come here compared to other pubs within my walkable distance - well worth it, every time.”

“We chose to visit this pub for a family members birthday and it was a huge mistake. Two of the parties chose to order the rump steak and to say it was bad would be an understatement, the steak was from an extremely poor cut of meat and definitely didn't match the price (£22 and £24). However this was nothing compared to the disgraceful service we received where we were treated with absolutely no respect and were completely talked down to. When the waiter came to take our plates we asked for the manager just to let them know that the steak was not up to standards, mainly just to help them improve it for the future. The assistant manager, Caitlyn then came over and was completely rude and dimissive, even though we were only attempting to help the pub to improve. She talked over us many times and told us that we 'should have got something else then if you didn't like it then and 'I don't know what you want me to do about it' this is definitly not how hospitality staff should talk to customers and her overall attitude was disgisting. We also couldn't have got something else' (not that we should have to because the waiter only came to ask how the food was once as soon as it arrived, before had even had the chance to try it which makes these so called 'checks' inefficient. She then got the head chef to come out and he was even ruder. Before we could even talk he said just refund them and don't come back'. This condisending tone was absolutely disgracful and staff should not be speaking to customers in this way at all, as we didn't even want to be refunded for the steaks we simply just wanted to help them improve in the future. Both the head chef and the assistant manager were completly unbothered and rude and definitly ruined what was supposed be a nice birthday meal and left everyone in the family upset and angry. The amount of poor reviews of customer service for this place should really be a wake up call for the manager. Our aim with this review is to make sure potential customers and the manager are aware of the horrendous customer service and poor quality of food, we really hope this review helps to improve the pub and makes sure no one else is treated like this in the future.”

“Had a very lovely lunch here, by chance. The food was absolutely wonderful, especially the black pudding starter and the ham crumble main 🤤 Great portions too and reasonable prices. Possibly a new favourite spot for a lunch date!”
