Customer Review Summary
The canalside beer garden draws the most praise, with reviewers describing a large grassed area, a fenced section overlooking the canal, huts with bench seating, and room for dogs and families. Close behind are the staff, called friendly, warm and welcoming by most. Diners name the salt and pepper chips, chicken curry and steak and ale pie, and one calls the chocolate orange sponge and cheesecake fab. The beer is described as well kept. The food draws a real split, though. One diner found the sticky beef salad sparse with chewy beef and the lasagne bland with a floury taste, while another got a dry, overcooked chicken burger after a long wait and a swapped light bite. One reviewer also cautions that dishes can run out later in the day. A boater who stopped for dinner was asked, once the meal arrived, whether anything else was needed.

“Average at best. Called in on spec after work. Lovely pub, nice staff but let down by the food. Ordered the sticky beef salad, told at the bar that it was a substantial salad and has plenty in the bowl. That wasn't the case 4 slices of tomato, small amount of grated carrot and some leaves didn't really meet that statement, beef was chewy albeit a decent amount. Salads aren't the most exciting dish ,I know but this was a boring bowl. Disappointed, certainly for the price. I'm sure it was £18.50 ... Wife had lasagne, which to be fair was a large plate full but was bland and had a floury taste running through it. No table check back to see if everything was ok. We hadn't eaten there for a while and based on what we had, probably won't again, shame really as it's local to us. We'd paid when ordering and didn't stay for another drink.”

“Nice little pub. Food nice but don't leave it too late to dine as possible run out of something you like. Staff pleasant. It's not to far from Anderton boat lift venue.”

“Called in for lunch between showers and had a fantastic meal. The food was better than normal pub food. The beer was well kept. Highly recommend this venue. Also has moorings on the canal if you visit by boat.”

“Never been before but will certainly be returning. The food was lovely and the service was excellent. The menu had a varied selection without being overwhelming. Something for everyone, whether you wanted a light snack or a full meal. Can’t fault the staff. They were all very warm and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Can’t wait to come back in warmer weather to enjoy lunch in the garden and take advantage of the canal side walks with my dog”
