Customer Review Summary
Food draws the most praise, with reviewers calling the dishes delicious and consistently great, including a vegetarian bean hot pot and a Spanish food and wine pairing evening. Close behind are the welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, the village green setting and friendly staff, plus drinks that include special cocktails, alcohol free options and an interesting wine list. One group of 35 found its Sunday lunch booking easy and efficient. The main caveat is value and portions. Several call the prices high, one citing a pie and a salad for two, and another describing a roast dinner of one piece of beef, one Yorkshire pudding, two potatoes and a carrot that left a son and husband still hungry. One review lists salty gravy, overcooked bacon chops and frozen chips, and one parent says the kids menu feels like an afterthought. Another diner was refused food on Father's Day for not having booked, despite free tables outside, and two reviewers suggest booking ahead. One pair was so impressed they returned the next day to try different dishes and found them equally good.

“Been here lots of times. Very dog friendly. Never booked and always had a table available inside or outside. Did go on father's day and there were plenty of free tables outside but we were told we hadn't booked so we couldn't eat even though we had done so dozens of times previously.”

“Food was really nice but portions were too small, roast dinner was one peice of beef, one Yorkshire pudding, 2 potatoes and a carrot. My sons pasta and pudding were also very small. On the way home both my son and husband were still hungry. Though the service was OK nothing went wrong our dining experience just felt a little rushed like we were in the way. We had to ask for the desert menu etc. I'd maybe go again but not on a busy day and not for a roast dinner.”

“Great atmosphere and nice spaced seating. I 100% recommend booking a table otherwise you could be disappointed. They have a little field with one swing and tractor. It's not a place for kids. Meal for two is expensive like £70 for two and that's pie and a salad. 🫰 But the quality of food is good. The drinks are fine and the service is great. Parking is reasonable but if it's full car park then expect no tables. You can have business meetings there but no Aircon. They do open windows though unlike other places. They have a ticket/voucher scheme collect 6 for a free meal and I am up to four so it's a good place just not for kids. It's more of a meet with friends for a meal vibe set in a nice green space.”

“Chicken roast Chicken tiny , stuffing the thinnest slice and gravy was too salty. Bacon chops well over cooked, egg over cooked and mushroom tiny and overcooked. Chips were frozen. For the price I would have expected home made. Staff were miserable. Our first visit - food average but I believe everyone deserves a second chance as may have had staffing issues etc but we definitely won’t be visiting again. Over priced, poor food. It’s a shame as it’s a nice pub.”

“Pro: i really like going to the hayhurst. Lovely atmosphere. Lots of space for kids to play on the green common (owned by the parish council incidentally). HOWEVER. I have to say the food is mediocre at best when i went.. and I'm the kind of person who's impressed by a sausage roll. Maybe they had an off day? Food is grossly overpriced. And next to zero thought has gone into the kids menu. Go for a quick drink and a play with the kids and go elsewhere for food is what i can realistically suggest. I hope they take the time to review the menu.. otherwise i really like the place.”

Good to know
“The Hayhurst Arms is a classic village pub which sits in the heart of Bostock, right beside the village green. It is a friendly, close-knit community and the pub forms a wonderful social hub where neighbours can meet for a chat and a pint, locals can bring friends and family for a bite to eat, and where visitors will find a warm welcome. You'll find log fires burning, lots of cozy corners to tuck yourself away, and a well-stocked bar right at the heart of things. When the sun shines, the pub is flooded with light, and our spacious terrace and gardens, which overlook the village green, are the perfect place for a spot of al fresco dining.”
