About Café Royal Grill

Café Royal Grill is a restaurant on Regent St. in London, set in an ornate Grade II listed room where gold leaf, gold-coloured walls and mirrors line the interior. A pianist plays beside the tables, so live music accompanies the meal. The menu includes steak, and desserts include sticky toffee pudding, soufflé and meringue. Customer Review Summary

Afternoon tea draws the most mentions, with reviewers singling out the egg sandwich, light sandwiches, moist and rich scones, and a vegetarian selection described as full of flavour. Close behind are the Grill room's dishes: the roast beef on a Sunday, the steak, soufflé, sticky toffee pudding, and a meringue. The gold leaf, mirrors, and piano music come up repeatedly, and reviewers describe the room as grand and elegant, with the service as warm and attentive. One diner credits a server and a wine specialist for a dessert wine suggestion. The complaints are small but specific. One reviewer found the steak a little gummy, another called the dessert menu lacklustre, with a few fruit slices and a sorbet, and one notes the afternoon tea is not the cheapest. Others call the prices reasonable for the setting. Several mention a birthday acknowledged at the table, and one says a doorman helped make their reservation.

“Highly recommended if you would like to experience upscale English high tea. Sandwiches were light yet tasty. The scones were moist and rich. The pastries were sophisticated and amazing. Not the cheapest. But it was a memorable experience. We had similarly-priced afternoon tea at the Shard Shangri-La, for which I would give two stars. This place is a clear winner.”

“If I could give this more stars I would! I had the most amazing afternoon tea at the cafe royal. To start with, the venue is incredible. The decor is so fine with the most amount of gold I’ve ever seen. The tables are nicely spaced out so you have time for yourself. The service was brilliant too. Sometimes walking into these kinds of establishments you can be treated a certain way - but not here. We were treated with such patience and kindness. The afternoon tea we had matched the greatness of everything else. Every part of it was truly delicious. We had a particular obsession for the egg sandwich. I highly recommend a visit!”

“I had a wonderful lunch at Café Royal in London, with a grand and elegant interior that makes the whole experience feel very special. The piano music was wonderful and created a beautiful atmosphere that really added to the charm of the room. The service was polished, warm, and attentive, and the food was generally very good and nicely presented, although my steak was a little gummy for my taste. Even with that small detail, I still really enjoyed my time there and loved the mix of history, luxury, and live music. I highly recommend Café Royal for a stylish lunch in central London and would be happy to return”
