About Mi Canteen
Mi Canteen is a Sichuan restaurant in London, at 4 Macclesfield St, built around Chongqing supreme flat noodles in spicy hotpot and rice noodles made in house. The restaurant is open daily, so the noodle focus is available any day of the week. Beyond the noodles, the menu runs to beef dishes, including Chongqing ma-la beef, and vermicelli dishes such as red pepper beef dried vermicelli. Stir-fried plates are cooked to order in the wok. Typhoon shelter prawns round out the seafood side of the menu.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the wok-cooked stir-fries, praising the smoky wok flavour in the egg fried rice, the cabbage, and dishes cooked to order. Two say the stir-fries outshone the vermicelli they came for. Beef dishes come close behind, including the marinated beef, Sichuan-style beef, braised beef, and a tender beef stir-fry described as great for sharing. Also named are the typhoon shelter prawns, fried prawn balls, salt and pepper squid, minced pork eggplant, and a Chinese chicken curry, with several describing the portions as huge. Most call the service friendly and quick. The main complaint is one reviewer's account of a staff member telling a delivery rider to say please before he would be given water while other staff looked on, leading that reviewer to call the staff poorly trained. Smaller notes include a tomato rice noodle dish that was too sweet and sour for one diner, and a cold beef dish covered in peanut sauce that another guest did not expect. A few mention no service charge and buy-one-get-one-free beers.

“Really enjoying my meal here writing this as I eat. Just past the busy china town street and seems like a quitet spot. The braised beef was really good, with the flavours, portion sizes, presentation and overall value all coming together really well. The service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was nice and welcoming. It has more of a casual dining feel, which suited the experience perfectly. I’d definitely order again and would highly recommend it to others.”

“I visited MI Canteen China Town with my friends on 24th June Wednesday evening and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. Around 7:50 PM, I witnessed a delivery rider come in with an empty bottle and ask for some water. Instead of helping him politely, a staff member told him that he had to say “please” first before they would give him water. The way the situation was handled felt rude and unnecessary. What surprised me even more was that several staff members were present, and none of them seemed interested in handling the situation professionally. From my experience, the staff appeared poorly trained, communication was difficult, and overall customer service standards felt very low. In comparison, the nearby Rasasayang restaurant has always provided a much better experience. Their staff are friendly, cooperative, professional, and welcoming. The food quality there is also excellent and, in my opinion, far better than MI Canteen. I believe restaurants should treat everyone with basic respect and courtesy, whether they are customers, delivery riders, or visitors. Based on what I witnessed, I would think twice before returning here. If this is the level of service being provided, I would personally prefer to dine elsewhere in the future. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and works on improving staff training, professionalism, and customer service.”

“Lovely people! My Chinese friend took me here to try the food. Everything was delicious and VERY quick! We got treated so politely too, I’ll definitely come back again ☺️! We shared a bowl of rice 🍚 , the chongqing ‘ma-la’ beef 🍲 and the Chinese chicken curry 🍛! The chicken curry was AMAZING! So soft and tasty, i definitely recommend. Normally my stomach reacts to curry but this one did me justice 😌. As for the cold beef, it was covered in peanut sauce. I didn’t know this and do not prefer that but my friend found the dish great! To be honest, if it wasn’t for the peanut sauce then I would’ve loved it too - the beef had an amazing texture though 😋 In the end, we got treated with the most respect, as if we were all friends!”

“The service here is absolutely amazing!!! Especially the waitress who served us really well!! We ordered the sour cabbage fish ( portion was massive and definitely enough to feed two to three people and it has glass noodles inside as well), also ordered red pepper beef dried vermicelli ( portion was huge as well, loved the flavour of the minced beef- not too salty, not spicy as well), deep fried salt and pepper squid( so fresh, not bad ) , and stir fried long beans with minced pork ( absolutely delicious) best paired with rice !!! Loved every dishes here !! Highly recommend this restaurant if you want something not too oily , huge portion”

“Had an amazing experience at Mi Canteen in London! The food was incredibly fresh and full of flavor—especially the marinated beef (perfectly balanced with a hint of garlic and vinegar, super appetizing), the typhoon shelter prawns (so fresh and crispy), and the minced pork eggplant which was amazing with rice. The honey glazed wings and salt & pepper ribs were also very well seasoned and cooked perfectly. You can really taste the wok hei—everything is cooked to order with no pre-made dishes. Service was attentive and friendly, and no service charge is a huge plus in London. Highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”
