About The Bell

The Bell is a pub in Gillingham, on The St, with a menu of burgers, lasagne and fish and chips, plus sharer options for the table. A roast dinner is served with lamb and turkey, and roast turkey is on the menu for Christmas dinner. A live singer performs in the afternoon alongside the roast, which gives the meal some entertainment. At the bar, the drinks range from cask ales to spirits. A lunch offer pairs a sandwich with a side and a drink, and a separate offer covers two mains and two drinks. Tables can be booked online.

Customer Review Summary

Sunday dinner and roasts draw the most mentions, with diners praising the lamb and turkey and a Christmas roast turkey described as stunning. Close behind is the live singer, whom reviewers call great and a bonus on busy Sunday afternoons. The friendly, helpful staff come up repeatedly, and one server is singled out in several reviews for checking in often. Reviewers also like the refurbished pub, the garden, the dog bowls of fresh water, and the lunch and two mains deals, with one noting a sandwich, side and drink offer as great value. The main complaint is food consistency. One diner found the roast potatoes rock hard, the beef tough, the gravy too thick and the steak sandwich full of gristle, while another wanted a third slice of turkey. Another notes there is no Saturday lunch menu, only mains and desserts. Several mention generous portions, and one says take-away boxes are available for leftovers.

“Lovely Sunday afternoon with food and brilliant entertainment. The singer was great and her song choices were on point! As usual the staff worked hard for this busy, sunny, Sunday afternoon.”

“Not the best food in the area. Roast dinner, potatoes rock hard and beef, tough & gravy too thick. Steak sandwich was full of gristle, not good at all. Gammon was ok and I've heard the fish & chips is fine. Greene King, step your game up with the food, I'm moving into the village and want to entertain my friends and family here, but, I won't if the food doesn't improve!!”

“We had a fab girly get together on Monday night and we would like to thank our waitress Hollie for being really fab. She was so happy, polite and helpful. She really looked after us and we thought she was really lovely.”

“Visited The Bell in Bredhurst today and had a really lovely experience. We arrived right at 12 when they opened and found everything easy and straightforward. We used the app to order our food and drinks, which was quick and convenient. The pub is very dog friendly, with plenty of bowls of fresh water available for dogs, which was a nice touch. We chose to sit outside in the garden, which was a lovely setting to relax and enjoy our meal. The food tasted great, the drinks were good, and the prices were very reasonable and affordable. There is also a large car park, making it easy to visit without worrying about parking. Overall, a great experience with good food, good value for money, and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!”

“Just had a fantastic lunch at The Bell in Bredhurst, Kent. Atmosphere was good, service was great and food was excellent. Had the lunch offer, sandwich, side and drink for £9.95 per person, great value. It is extremely hard to believe that The Hungry Fox in Gillingham is part of the same group as the food there is awful, atmosphere non existent and service is average. Thank you to The Bell and the staff for restoring my faith in the Greene King group.”
