About Oak on the Green
Oak on the Green is a pub in Maidstone, set on a village green in a hostelry dating from 1665. The kitchen pairs British and Mexican dishes, so the menu runs from fried brie and fish and chips to a pork tomahawk. Steaks are cooked to order, with rump steak among them. The drinks list includes local Kent wines alongside a selection of ales and lagers. The pub operates on a walk-in basis. It also stands next to a park.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the food, with the pork dishes drawing the most specific praise: the pork tomahawk and the pork chop. Close behind are the rump steak, which two diners describe as cooked perfectly, the sea bream, the fried brie and the fish and chips. Lemon posset and chocolate brownie are mentioned for dessert. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and welcoming, and one party describes the waitresses bringing out a birthday cake, singing, and letting the group cut and eat it at the table. Drinks draw comment too, including the Masterbrew, a good range of ales and lagers, and wines that include local Kent choices. A few note the pub is popular with family groups, and one suggests booking in advance for weekends. The criticisms are small and specific: one reviewer found no gluten free vegan options on the menu, and another was disappointed at being charged for two glasses of diet coke. One diner mentions a lovely walk around the park afterwards and a big carpark.

“Today ( Aug 16th) we had a party of 13 people to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday🎂. The food & service were both excellent & 1st class. Nothing was too much trouble for the waitresses who were very polite, informative & above all very nice to talk to Even bringing out the cake & singing! And they allowed us to cut & eat some at the table Overall it made my wife's day even more memorable & couldn't of asked of anymore from the whole staff 100% thank you from everyone🥰😊 Iain & Natalie xx”

“Lovely place with friendly staff and good food- highly recommend fried brie and pork tomahawk. Good selection of wines including local Kent choices. I went in the middle of the weekday, so it wasn’t too crowded, but it seems to be quite popular, so would recommend booking in advance for weekends”

“Oak on the green is a great foodie pub in a wonderful location. The only thing that prevented this from being a five was the fact there’s zero gluten free vegan options on the menu.”

“Food and service were exceptional. I really loved the pork chop. Also the fish and chips were really good. I was disappointed to see they charged me $9 euros for 2 glasses of diet coke...”
