Customer Review Summary
The recurring complaint is the layout. Several note the stairs and different levels, with one saying wheelchair users, pushchairs or unsteady walkers need to book a table downstairs, and others dislike being seated in the basement. One diner found the chicken carvery tasteless and unseasoned, with a limited menu beyond it. Another felt unable to linger over a drink because of people fetching food from the carvery. One reviewer who stayed overnight in a motorhome after a meal woke to a quiet night and a lake view.

“Staff were so well dressed, professional and polite. Food was gorgeous not much waiting and the garden area was lovely. Recommend”

“Visited on a weekend. Lovely garden with views of the river. We were seated in the bowels of the building, which I personally hate. I had a carvery with chicken. Utterly tasteless and colourless with no seasoning whatsoever - not even salt and pepper and looked like it had been boiled. No honey on the carrots, everything else OK and the roast potatoes were fabulous. Sticky toffee pudding, whilst lovely, was served with ice cream and no other options available! Husband had fish and chips which was excellent. My gripe was the menu was extremely limited and the carvery was my only option. Would we go back? Only for a drink and a packet of crisps and sit in the garden area!”

“This place is everything you want in a local spot. It’s incredibly family-friendly and the staff are always accommodating and welcoming. We love coming here year-round—it has the perfect cozy vibe with a roaring fire in the winter, and an absolutely fantastic beer garden to enjoy a few drinks in the summer. Whether you're looking for a great place to eat with the family or just a relaxing spot for a drink, I highly recommend checking them out. A true hidden gem!”

“Lovely place for a family meal, very nice surroundings, beautiful food, friendly service”

“The restaurant is located in the basement of the building. We were seen to quickly upon arrival. Our drinks and food order was taken once we were seated. The cavery staff were efficient with plenty of vegetables on offer. You feel that you can't sit and relax with a drink after the meal because of the people fetching their food from the carvery. The is no soft music to soften the atmosphere. But you can buy cobs and drinks to eat outside with views over the fishing lake.”
