  “My friend and I came here for late lunch on a Tuesday. Parking was easy. It was quiet and comfortable inside. Our starters (garlic mushrooms, fried squid) and mains (mussels, beef & ale pie) were delicious and amply served. In particular, the sauce on the mussels was very good. We had just enough room to enjoy dessert (tiramisu). The staff were friendly and engaging, and we had a relaxed and pleasant experience here.   “Service always very good and the pub is beautiful. But sadly the quality of the food has gone down since we came in several occasions last year. Seems pretty much the same as any 'cheaper' chain of pubs, whereas it used to be much better than that. I get very frustrated when you spend a not insignificant sum (£120) and feel that you could have had better at home.”

  “Fantastic food, the service is brilliant and a lovely atmosphere, the Maenllwyd is a fantastic restaurant. Great for families and couples, the atmosphere is great. Highly recommend the desert menu!”

  “29/8/25: A lovely building with very pleasant and accommodating staff. The selection of food was classic gasto-pub-grub but everyone had a tasty meal. My pork belly was very tender and portion size was extremely good value. Some thought has been given to the small vegetarian section so that was good too. There are a few classic British ales on tap and the usual continental chilled ‘light biers’ too. The sticky toffee pudding with custard is one of the best I’ve tasted in a pub! There are allegedly two ghosts that haunt the property and may be one of them enjoys playing with a drink or two; see video. Booking via telephone is a bit of a tortuous experience as you are talking to an automated voice and although it is a recording of an actual human the stop start experience of the questions are a bit tiresome! It’s something the management ought to consider changing.”

  “Beautifully decorated for Christmas throughout. Very busy when we arrived. Pricing is a little on the expensive side for drinks. Small car park to the rear of the building, with an overflow car park just across the road. Dog friendly, even has a little dog stop inside, with water, treats, etc. Gentleman at the bar (with the glasses) was very professional and friendly, gave us a pot of tea instead of 2 single teas, which i was grateful for. I felt they should make you aware of where you can sit when you're only having drinks. I entered and said to the gentleman waiting to sit people for dinner, we were only here for drinks at the moment, which he said wasn't a problem, and we made our way to the bar. I asked for a drinks menu and then found a table to look over the menu. I was then told by the gentleman who was sitting people for dinner that we couldn't sit at the table and had to stand at the bar. I didn't make a fuss, but being pregnant and considering there was no seating at the bar, as well as the gentleman never told us where we could sit instead, I thought this was a bit unprofessional. I was then left to ask the bar tender where we could sit with drinks, to which he had to go and ask another employee? Although the bartender was very helpful, I think seating should be made clear when you enter the premises. Other than that, it was a lovely visit, and I will be back to try the menu.”

  “We did Sunday lunch twice in a month as it was that good. The 7-hour Slow-Cooked Rib of Beef was fantastic as was the Lemon & Thyme Half Roast Chicken and the Lamb Shank Shepherd's Pie was my favourite. Its a great location and lovely pub, in the country with a great overflow car park We'll be back”
