About Ty Mawr
On Graig Rd in Cardiff, Ty Mawr is a pub with a large garden that looks out over the Severn Estuary, Cardiff, Steepholm and Flatholm, so the outdoor space doubles as a viewing spot. Inside, a big seating area holds the bar, which serves a selection of beers and ciders as well as cocktails. The menu uses Welsh meat, with a sirloin steak among the mains and halloumi fries and garlic mushrooms as starters. Sunday runs on a menu with limited choice. The pub hosts birthday parties and wedding parties. Dogs are welcome, and the bar and kitchen can get busy on sunny days.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the view over the Severn Estuary, with several calling it the best in the Cardiff area and returning for it alone. Close behind is the staff, described as friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating, with one server singled out repeatedly for explaining the menu and going above and beyond. Diners name halloumi fries, garlic mushrooms, sirloin steak and a chicken burger as delicious, and a few praise the beer and cider selection and the cocktails. The pub also hosted a wedding party and several birthday celebrations to warm reviews.

“It's a shame to give this place a low rating. I came here for my birthday, we paid between £16-£20 per meal, waited nearly an hour for the food to come out, all of which had different issues. The hunters chicken was battered, with what seemed like a tiny piece of chicken in. The lasagne was burnt around the edges and tip layer of pasta was over cooked. The sausage and mash kids meal was awful. Dry, lumpy mash & the sausages were like rubber. We ordered Pepsi which tasted like it was watered down. We did have drinks after which tasted better. Its a shame as the site is very nice, small kids park on site, beautiful views of the estuary, large seating area inside. Beautifully looking on the outside. It's a shame about the food.”

“Had a lovely meal last night with a friend. Marie served us and she was so friendly but professional. She explained the menu and helped us with choices. The meal was lovely and will definitely return”

“Visited on Sunday with two friends. The setting is absolutely stunning, with incredible views and a really lovely atmosphere. It’s the sort of place you could happily spend a few hours relaxing with a drink. Unfortunately, the service let it down a little. It took around two hours from ordering to finishing our mains and desserts, and the pace throughout felt very slow. We all ordered at the same time, but my meal arrived well before my friends’. I’d actually finished eating before theirs came out, which wasn’t ideal when you’re dining together. The food itself was nice enough, but nothing that really stood out. I’m not sure if it was because it was the Sunday menu, but the choice was fairly limited and quite a few items were unavailable. The portions also felt a little small for the price, although the oversized plates probably made them look even smaller than they were. On the plus side, there was an excellent selection of beers and ciders, which was definitely a highlight. Overall, I’d still return because the location and atmosphere are fantastic. Next time, though, I’d probably go for drinks or make sure I’d had something to eat beforehand if visiting at a busy weekend.”

“Fabulous venue and wonderful attentive staff. The occasion for us was a 40th birthday party . Unfortunately there was a wedding party on at the same time so there was a large delay in serving our food. However our table staff Ciaran was exceptional, and the food was fabulous”

“Just had a lovely meal with my partner, we went for the halloumi fries and garlic mushrooms to start followed by the sirloin steak and chicken burger for mains, everything was beautifully presented and delicious so shout out to the chefs! The staff were so attentive and welcoming (especially Josh and Alaney) even though I could see they were busy they still looked after us and nothing was too much! Will definitely be back again!”
