About Spencer Arms
Spencer Arms is a gastropub at 21 Church St in Cawthorne, Barnsley, near the antique shop and Cannon Hall Park. The building dates to the 18th century and keeps an open fire, now alongside an updated interior. The Modern British menu includes a beef Sunday dinner, a fish of the day and a sharing seafood platter. The bar serves real ale with a selection of beers and wines. A private dining room is set aside for groups, and dogs are welcome inside and out. Children have a play area behind the large car park. Reservations are required. Live music and BBQ run on select days.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return to praise the food, which reviewers call fantastic and tasty, with the beef Sunday dinner described as pink and succulent and a sharing seafood platter called first class. Close behind are the staff, described as friendly, polite and helpful, with one reviewer noting the manager went above and beyond to find a table after a booking mix-up. The cosy, warm atmosphere and the beer and wine selection also come up, along with outdoor seating, dogs welcome and a children's play area behind the car park. The main caveat is dessert: one reviewer found the choice small and basic, with no chocolate puddings, and wanted more fresh fruit than the few blackberries and single strawberry on the ice cream dish. Another found service a tad slow to start on a busy day. A family of seven described two courses as good value, and a Christmas dinner brought one diner back again.

“Arrived this eve after messing up the booking (my fault). It was a long awaited family reunion - the lady managing the restaurant went above and beyond to sort us out with a table. Food and service all excellent. Highly recommended. Great to see dogs soaking up the atmosphere too. Thank you so much!”
