  “My immediate family took me to Boatman's Rest for my 80th birthday on Tues 28th July 2026, booked for 5pm. The food was gorgeous, had 2 steak Sizzlers in peppercorn sauce, 1 king prawn sizzler in peri peri sauce,1 filled Yorkshire pudding,2 lasagna, all with all the trimmings. Starters were, 4 prawn cocktails,1 garlic mushrooms,1salmon & dill fishcakes, again with all the trimmings.Deserts,2 gin & lime cheesecake with ice cream,1 bowl ice cream. Everything tasted lovely & cooked well& decent portions( we are big eaters-- hate skimpiness). The staff were brill,very friendly,especially our young waitress. Decent prices for what you get, Everyone enjoyed the experience. Will definitely return-- already chosen next meal!!! Sue Denton& hubby ,daughter & grandson,son & daughter- in - law.”

  “Stopped a couple of nights in our camper. The Landlord and staff were very welcoming and friendly. They look and sound like they enjoy being there. The food is spot on and great value for money. There are special offers on different days and a specials offer on the chalkboard at the bar. The pub is next to the Trans Pennine Way if you want to cycle or walk”

  “If you like food you nan cooked then this the place you, its just like cafe food not pub food. I had a mixed meat salad n the meat was very dry. I will try there carvery one day as it smelt good but was a bit warm that day hense the salad. The pub is great though, really old fashioned pub”

  “If you like a Cavery for Sunday lunch, I do recommend the Boatman's Rest. A wide selection of vegetables and sauces. You can choose 2 meats from a selection of 4, beautifully cooked. There is an option to have steak pie instead of meat. Well organised and lovely friendly staff. You can even order Sinday lunch as a takeaway. Apologies no photos.”

  “Went for a Sunday carvery and it was absolutely delicious and very generous with the portions The meat was tasty, excellent choice of seasonal vegetables which were all well cooked. The restaurant is exceedingly busy and booking in advance is definitely needed The carpark is not massive and quite tight fore space The pub itself is small quaint and has traditional decor”

  “A tasty timewarp! We had supper here on the tail end of a long trip a few months ago. Primarily I chose it in search of the Barnsley chop as part of my on-going mission to eat british foods in the places they're named after. The pub itself was so old school, felt like we'd time travelled back to the 90s - and it was oh so charming for it! Yorkshire pudding and onion gravy, 9/10, simple and delicious, excellent presentation, the alarmingly large pud was a fun surprise and actually not overly filling shared between two, great value. King prawn sizzler with piripiri sauce, 7/10, the prawns were pretty nice and the piripiri had a good kick to it. The sauce was a bit soupy though which didn't make it too appetising, although I will say the vegetables were not mushy at all so perhaps just not to our taste. Barnsley chop, 8/10, beautiful crust on the lamb fat and the meat itself wasn't dry at all. Paired nicely with some mint sauce. The jacket potato was lovely; buttery soft interior and crunchy exterior. Carrots were a little over salted and the peas were slightly overcooked, but still pleasant.”

  “Wow! What can I say, first visit, this place straight to the top of my list, proper traditional pub, food first class so is the prices, atmosphere brilliant, credit to the people that run The Boatmans Rest, and the staff are crackers.”

  “⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Boatman’s Rest Fantastic carvery — generous portions, perfectly cooked meats, and plenty of fresh veg. The staff are so friendly and make you feel really welcome from the moment you walk in. It’s a lovely traditional pub with a warm, relaxed atmosphere — exactly how a proper local should be. Highly recommend!”
