About The Dunkirk
The Dunkirk is a pub in Huddersfield at 231 Barnsley Rd, and reservations are required. Guests wait in the bar area and are then taken through to their table, where food and drinks are ordered. Seating is on two levels, both downstairs and upstairs. The menu runs from guinea fowl and liver and bacon to fish and chips, and Sunday lunch is served. Gluten-free guests can flag the allergy in their booking details, and the pub follows up to talk through what they can eat. Dogs are welcome. A large car park sits up the road, with some parking on the side street.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch draws the most mentions at The Dunkirk, described as delicious and backed by friendly staff, with one party noting the pub contacted them the same day to talk through a gluten free guest's options. Reviewers also name the hake steak, guinea fowl, lamb, rump steak, liver and bacon, and pigeon salad, and one calls the menu intriguing and a little different from standard pub food. Close behind is the service, called friendly and helpful, with a few praising the decor as nicely done. The main caveat is timing. Two reviewers report long waits for food, one saying the last two visits ran nearly 3 hours even when the restaurant was quiet, and another felt they waited too long after ordering drinks at the table. One also finds the prices high, though still says the food justifies them. One reviewer notes the downstairs seating has more attentive staff and a better atmosphere than upstairs. A business lunch guest says mains arrived promptly, with the hake plate left clean.

“Was a recommendation from a colleague. Didn't disappoint. Service was great, friendly, not rushed or too intrusive. Food was really tasty, partner had the guinea fowl and I had the lamb. Both had great flavour. Inside is also really nicely decorated.”

“Great food as always and friendly staff. For the past two visits we have had long waiting times for food and have been at the restaurant for nearly 3 hours. I’m not sure why this is but the restaurant was quiet on our last visit.”

“Yeah this place is so nice. Just for a beer or food. Food is amazing. Great menu. Just a really good atmosphere. Again 2 months later. Still amazing. Food is always top notch. Love this place.”

“One of our favourite places to eat! We love coming to The Dunkirk for a nice meal, and it never disappoints. The food is always delicious and the staff are friendly and welcoming. We visited for Sunday lunch for the first time as a party of 4. One party member is gluten free which I put on the booking details. The same day I was contacted by a member of the Dunkirk to discuss his allergy and talked through what he could eat and what the chef would do which was really great! Would definitely recommend if you have allergies. There’s a great choice of meats, fish and sides – something for everyone. We’ll certainly be back!”

“Excellent Food and reasonably priced. Friendly service but felt we waited too long having ordered drinks at our table. Nonetheless will defunct be coming here again.”
