About Royal Oak

Royal Oak is a pub at 5 School Rd in Wolverhampton, with a bar, a snug and a beer garden that has bouncy castles for children at times. The food is simple pub fare, with hot meat rolls, pies and pasties on offer. Drinks run to regular ales alongside guest beers, plus gin and wine. Sport goes on the TVs for England games, and dogs are welcome. A separate function room is available for private parties. The pub has no parking of its own, but an NCP car park sits across the road.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return for the beer, described as very well kept, often with a guest ale or two, served by a friendly, welcoming landlord and staff. Food is limited but praised: pies, pasties, scotch and pickled eggs, hot meat rolls on Sundays, and cobs. The beer garden draws repeated praise as the best in the area and always clean, with bouncy castles for the kids. A few also mention a function room and sports on several TVs. Dogs are welcome, and several call it a family and community local. The complaints concern cost and manner. One reviewer found a slightly too cold Wainwright extortionate and noted the pub does not take the CAMRA discount. Another, visiting for an England match, met bar staff shouting at people to form a queue and found the football food too expensive, though the beer was good. One visitor from near Manchester was offered free samosas when returning the following day.

“Very nice but no parking - difficult for limited mobility as parking in NCP over road. Pub lovely though and always best to walk to a pub.”

“3 ales on can get in any pub in the local vacinity. Ectortionate £5.20 for a slightly too cold Wainrights, an ale bordering dregs of society with Boom Dar and Amber. When can get 5% ABV+ from micro breweries at £3.90 served to perfection. Also the only Marstons pub that dont take CAMRA discount.”
