About The Mermaid
On Bridgnorth Rd in Wolverhampton, The Mermaid is a pub that stood as one of just 23 houses in its area in 1780 and later received visitors exploring nearby Wightwick Manor. The Sunday roast menu includes a vegetarian choice, a trio of meats, turkey and lamb, with sides ordered alongside the main plate. The bar serves Timothy Taylor's Dark ale, and a chocolate brownie is on the dessert menu. Dogs are welcome, and a bowl and treats are set out at the entrance. A fire burns inside in the cooler months, and orders are paid for at the counter. The original interior carries artwork, photos and framed historical information about the building, Wightwick Manor, the Mander family and William Morris.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are about food and value. Several found roasts only warm, with dry meat, fatty lamb chunks, and hard roast potatoes. Others describe a brownie too hard to cut that was not replaced or removed from the bill, tough undercooked broccoli, potato-heavy fish cakes, and mocktails that tasted like orange juice. One reviewer found the fish bland and the schnitzel dry. Another was handed a menu featuring duck that was unavailable, and a third found the Christmas profiteroles had run out.

“I've always loved this pub. My visits go back many times over the years. However, it had been a few years since returning. I'm pleased we have started visiting again. Most recently, our visits have been for the Sunday roast menu. Both vegetarian options we have tried were very nice. Ample portion sizes, particularly when the selection of sides is ordered alongside. Staff are largely welcoming and pleasant. A lovely, comfortable pub. Great to sit outside in the summer and watch the world go by. But also a lovely retreat from the cold weather, in the cooler months; especially when the fire is burning inside. Very cosy. And also a building of local interest. The original interior decor and design is still very present. Some interesting artwork, photos and framed historical information, all about the building itself, Wightwick Manor, the Mander family, William Morris and the local area. A lovely pub, generally, with a pleasant atmosphere.”

“First visit today, the rib eye steak was cooked to perfection (medium) of course. Service is great, Sam was excellent and the rest of the team were warm and welcoming. 10/10.”

“I’ve visited before when a friend is in the area. This Sunday the food was poor. I was given a special menu with duck as the main course yet this was not available when ordering. I chose the lamb instead. The meat was in chunks and not slices. Each chunk was fatty and not tender. The roast potatoes were appealing. Both my fiend and I left them all. They looked like they had been out all day and refried before serving. Hard and hollow. The Yorkshire pudding was ok for an ‘aunt bessies’ freezer style. I ate it and the veg. Not good enough for any price point and definitely not the premium pub price charged.”
