About Crown Wolverhampton
Crown Wolverhampton is a gastropub at 83 Wergs Rd in Wolverhampton, set in a historic Tettenhall building. The kitchen serves a Sunday roast with lamb or beef, and salt and pepper squid is one of the starters. An island bar anchors the interior and pours real ales and wines, along with cocktails and mocktails, including a non-alcoholic Martini. A private dining room gives large groups and birthday parties a space of their own, and dogs are welcome. Reservations are required, and guests can ask for a particular table, such as one by the window. Payment is taken at the bar.

Customer Review Summary
Food is the main draw, with reviewers naming salt and pepper squid, chicken skewers, a charcuterie board, burgers and chips, and calling dishes delicious, fresh and generous. Cocktails and mocktails, including a non-alcoholic martini, also earn praise. Close behind is friendly service from individual servers who handled allergies and a request to move tables, and a large group and an 80th birthday party both left happy. The complaints recur, though. Several describe long waits for drink orders to be taken and plates cleared, and mains or drinks being sold out, leaving one diner on a third choice. Sunday roasts arrived with cold elements, reheated potatoes and only a drizzle of gravy, steak and desserts came lukewarm, and a lamb ordered medium arrived essentially raw. One reviewer called staff rude and inattentive. Some problems were fixed on the spot: a cocktail that turned half foam was remade, and dough balls that came out like bricks were quickly swapped for good ones.

“We had a wonderful evening celebrating a close friend’s 80th birthday. From the arrangements beforehand to the service on the night, everything helped make it a really special occasion. A huge thank you to Frankie, who was instrumental in organising everything, and to Brad, who looked after us so well throughout the evening. Their efforts and attention made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We all had a fantastic night and couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate such a special milestone. Thank you to everyone involved for making it so memorable! 🥂”

“The food here is truly excellent. We have been as a large group a few times now and every dish has been impeccable. All the ingredients are fresh, every detail is perfect and the portions are generous. The interior decor is nice with its low lighting and island bar. My only criticisms would be that he selection of beer could be better and it's a shame they can't take orders outside. We'll definitely be back soon though. Best pub meal we've found in the area.”

“I am not the kind of person to leave a bad review, but today's meal was incredibly disappointing. When our starters arrived the waitress who bought our food over was rude, just put the food down on the table and walked away. If the food was decent I'd excuse the poor service. One of the prawns that we had as a starter had a black head and tail, we noticed unfortunately too late and when we questioned if it had been safe to eat we got a 'Yeah, yeah, you don't eat the head and tail anyway'. Not very reassuring and completely off-putting. The Lamb that was ordered was requested medium, when it arrived it was essentially raw. No offer of any drinks during the meal. And couldn't get any waiters attention. We waited for 30 minutes for anyone to even think about taking our plates, before we had to get up ourselves and pay at the bar. Staff are inattentive and rude, food is underwhelming. We will not be going back”

“Absolutely fantastic experience! The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. The service was outstanding from start to finish, and Chloe went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect throughout our visit. Excellent food, excellent service, and a lovely atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend it. Thank you, Chloe, for making our visit so enjoyable!”

“Went for lunch today. This place used to be really nice. My last two experiences haven’t been very good . The Sunday roast dinner was awful working in catering myself the roast potatoes were definitely reheated along with chicken and there was only a drizzle of gravy. Although the starter was nice. The toilets were awful the toilet roll was thrown about with no toilet roll holders the toilet roll was damp like it was thrown around the toilet it did used to be a nice place. I asked for a table by the window the window ledge was dirty with dead flies on them not a pretty site to look at when eating. I don’t think I will be visiting again. The food wasn’t very hot either. Also why are they using chipped dishes to serve food in.”
