Customer Review Summary
Slow table service dominates the reviews, with lunch diners describing very long waits for sandwiches, a vegan meal that turned out to be unavailable only after other tables had been served, and one party that left because nobody ever took their food order. Ham, egg and chips draws the sharpest food complaints, described as dry, grey ham with fried eggs cooked solid and crisp. The ploughman's is called small and careless, and others report dry chips, tasteless steak and a dry pie and mash. Some praise sits alongside this. The carvery, a baguette with chips and "very nice chips" are singled out, one diner called a birthday meal lovely, and the garden earns credit for shade, seating and space for children. A few mention a waiter who did not know what Dijon mustard was and a group told their table was booked for only a set time. One group had a forgotten meal arrive promptly and come off the bill without being asked.

“Group of 8 arrived on time for the booked table. Was directed to our table in the corner was set for 6 so assumed that the other 2 seater was also for us (which was fine) as the two teenagers could sit together. But that wasn't right. We ordered the drinks, average amount of wait time for those. Went to order after sitting down for 25 minutes, was only then made aware what wasn't on the menu. Not too sure why we werent told when were sat down! Food took a fair while to come out Which again was fine Forgot one person meal...arrived promptly after their error. ( was removed from the bill without asking) Took ages to get the table cleared and the desert menu only to be told that the table is only booked out for 2 hours.... I was really suprised by our visit. I had high hopes as ive always heard such great things.”

“Poor service . Visiting local friends, so good location for us, however poor staff and unfriendly. No welcome at breakfast, just a stare, as if to say “what do you want”? Only 2 in the restaurant and told to sit at table facing the corner 🤦🏼♂️😂 food from previous evening under the table 🥴fairly well appointed room but overall an unwelcoming experience.. rather give my money to Premier Inn.”

“Not great. Stopped here for lunch on a Thursday. Pub was quiet. Served by a very disinterested waiter at the table. Food came reasonably quickly. The ploughman’s was OK although rather small. Baguette and chips were a generous size and tasty. However, the ham egg and chips was dreadful probably the worst I have ever had. I started eating and the ham was dry and you could taste nothing but smoke. After a couple of mouthfuls my daughter said that she wouldn’t eat ham that was grey…I hadn’t noticed in the dim lighting but it was indeed grey. The eggs were fried until they solid and crisp. Chips were Ok but I didn’t pay for a portion of chips. Most of this remained uneaten, I probably should have complained but the service was so poor I just couldn’t be bothered with the hassle. Almost certainly won’t be back”

“Had Sunday lunch today. Carvery good, gravy had thick globules ugh. Mixed grill dreadful. The waiter had no idea what Dijon mustard was. Any mustard then - no mustard at all!!! How can you serve steak & not have mustard? We will not be visiting this establishment again.”

“Lunch here with my husband. .The pub itself is very nice and the food good. However, it's definitely let down by the service. A two hour wait for two sandwiches with a salad garnish ( the saladt was bwarm) andt two bowls of very nice chips - totally unacceptable!, We5 won't be going back.”
