Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out friendly, helpful staff, from one family who brought an eight week old baby on a Sunday afternoon to a server who turned a large birthday meal into a smaller pudding with a candle. Close behind is the food: a steak and Guinness pie, a cottage pie with seasonal veg, and a Sunday lunch are all described as lovely or delicious. The log fires on a wet day and the outdoor garden also earn praise, and one diner notes a long wait after ordering. The complaints are blunt and recur across the lower ratings. Roast beef was called tough and pre-cooked, with hard roast potatoes and extra charges for more gravy. A steak ordered medium rare arrived well done and small, and a table found its food cold, with one dish returned and brought back microwaved. Refunds were refused or limited. At one wedding anniversary lunch, staff offered a free pudding and drink as compensation.

“Awful meal of roast beef which was so tough people were asking for steak knifes. The meat was not carved from a joint but was obviously a pre cooked product which was offered as Rare or Well Done only. Only 2 tiny roast potatoes which were hard as bullets and basically inedible. Minimal amount of gravy which if you wanted more was an extra , a situation complained about at the opposite table. This was a wedding anniversary lunch which was saved from an absolute disaster by being offered a free pudding and drink as compensation. The staff were very polite and attentive through this horror story.”

“Unfortunately, tonight’s meal was a very disappointing experience. I ordered the special from the board: a 7oz steak with chunky chips and salad, priced at £32. I asked for the steak medium rare, but when it arrived, it was overcooked—closer to medium-well or well done. The portion was also extremely small, and the steak was so tough that it tasted like old boots. After two bites, I couldn’t eat any more and sent it back. The rest of the meal consisted of just five chunky chips, two small pieces of lettuce with some cheese, and two cherry tomatoes. Despite leaving virtually the entire steak, I was told that the most they could refund me was £5. I found this insulting considering the poor quality of the steak, the tiny portion size and the £32 price tag. Sadly, the meal was extremely overpriced and nowhere near the standard I would expect.”

“Booked a table for 6 people.ordered drinks at the bar and food .was told where our table was , and there was elderly couple sat eating a roast and they couldn’t eat it as there was about 30 flies flying around there dinner ! So we decided to sit outside.we ordered 3 roasts our friends ordered burgers chips and nachos .it came out literally within 10 minutes, the roast had hardly any vegetables.potatoes were rock hard and deep fried, our friends dinners every was cold , my friend went in and took the food back and was told he couldn’t have his money back .he demanded his money back .we paid for ours but didn’t really want to ! Avoid like the plague! Rude staff ! And not clean premises at all !!! Don’t waste your money ! Be warned”
