About Tom O' The Wood

Tom O' The Wood is a country pub and restaurant on Finwood Rd in Rowington, near Warwick, set beside the canal. Dogs are welcome, and sheds in the garden hold dog beds for dog-friendly visitors. The kitchen serves steak and kidney pudding, Southern Fried Chicken and Pil Píl Prawns, with homemade chips on the menu. Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the canal setting and the food, with homemade dishes drawing the most specific mentions: the homemade chips, a vegetable lasagna, a pie, the honey pork belly salad and the pea and pesto pasta. Smoked Haddock Rarebit and Pil Píl Prawns also get a nod as starters, and the brownie and bread and butter pudding arrive in huge portions. Close behind come the friendly staff, the outdoor seating and garden, and a welcome for dogs, with one group citing smooth service for a coach party. Complaints are about execution rather than the whole meal. One diner found the gammon dish skimpy, with four tiny roast potatoes and lumpy custard on the dessert. Another said the steak and kidney pudding was baked rather than steamed, so it ate like a cobbler. The Southern Fried Chicken went soggy under its poured sauce, and one reviewer suggests asking for the sauce on the side. A lone three-star review describes staff who could not recommend anything and a burger that did not seem homemade.

“I was passing by on my boat and decided to pop in for a Sunday lunch. Thankfully they were still serving at 3.30pm. I had a little bit of a wait for the food, but it was exceptionally busy. I gathered that it was a very popular place and as I wasn't in any hurry, I wasn't bothered. When my food arrived, I was gobsmacked at the size of the portion and also how it was so well plated. All of the staff were exceptionally efficient, professional and friendly. I would highly recommend this place is added to your bucket list. I know I will definitely be returning.”

“Friendly happy staff, great food reasonably priced. Great view of the canal easy access from road and car park. Good outside seating area”

“Pretty apathetic staff who couldn't recommend anything on the menu. A burger which I'm pretty sure was not homemade despite the claims of the menu - definitely not the chargrilled, freshly cooked meal I was hoping for. A nice space but that's about all.”

“We ended up here as we just fancied a pub by the canal and this is about an hour away from home for us. We had a lovely walk along the canal before we had our meal in the pub. The food we had was absolutely amazing and service was brilliant. We have promised ourselves we will go back. You can hear the motorway noise when you are out walking but it doesn't spoil the beauty of the canal. The pub is dog friendly and staff were reall good”

“I brought a OAP group by coach. The decor & setting was fresh, the food was home made & excellent, my vegetable lasagna was amazing & a really good sized portion. Service for 50 people was brilliant & accurate. Coach parking was all pre- arranged & in a good position.”
