About The Cape Of Good Hope
The Cape Of Good Hope is a freehold, independent gastropub at 66 Lower Cape in Warwick, positioned beside the canal with views of the locks. The bar pours cask ales, real ales and craft beers, with wine alongside for those who prefer it. On the food side, the menu includes battered fish with a large cod fillet, other fresh fish options and pies. Orders for food are placed at the bar, as the pub runs on bar service rather than waiting staff at the table. Busy periods can mean long waits for food, when the kitchen can become overloaded.

Customer Review Summary
Fish dishes draw the most praise at this canal-side pub, with one diner calling the battered cod the best batter they had ever had and another visitor returning three nights running for the fresh fish. The Sunday roast comes next, described as tasty with very big portions, though one reviewer found the side vegetables closer to a stir fry. Cask ales and craft beers are repeatedly singled out for range and condition, alongside a friendly team and views of the locks.

“Sunday roast is lovely l, very big portions. We did have to wait an hour for the food to come out to us. You need to order your food at the bar which took time as there were big parties ordering ahead and only one person serving! The pub its self was lovely and staff all friendly. Would definitely eat here again.”

“Nice location by the canal. Food was very good and the only reason it only gets 4 stars is because a lot of the menu was unavailable, including all the special main courses and all of the pies bar one. The staff were fun and gave us a prize to give to the winner of a private quiz we were running. That said, there was no waitress service in the restaurant, which is a bit of a pain with a big group as you have to remember all the orders and keep getting up for drinks etc. Extensive choice of beers.”

“The food was great. The location is great. However, when I visited last week the waitress behaved as though I was an inconvenience - bordering on rude more than ignorant when bringing the food over, passive-aggressively knocking the empty glass on the table when collecting it, and even coming over to rearrange the table condiments whilst I was still sitting there with a drink. Such a shame - without this, it would have been a solid 5 star review! Hopefully the management could ask the staff to be a bit more friendly, or at least pretend to!”

“Excellent selection of cask beer at a reasonable price. Very helpful and friendly staff. Good views of the locks as well.”
