Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the canal-side setting, with plenty of outdoor seating, alongside straightforward pub grub. The Sunday roast, served carvery style, is praised as good value, and diners also single out the hunters chicken, the Ultimate Burger with chilli and jalapeños, and the baguettes. Drinks draw praise too, including Doom Bar, a cold Guinness and Cheddar Valley cider, though one reviewer wanted a wider cider range. The recurring complaint is service and upkeep. Bar staff are often called friendly and efficient, while table and restaurant staff are described as surly, slow or disinterested. One reviewer's tuna and jacket potato lacked the listed cherry tomatoes and feta, and the staff ignored the request. Others mention a dry Balti served on a cold plate, a dry curry and a rock solid steak pie that was sent back. Several also cite peeling benches, tatty parasols, worn carpet and bins in view of the canal. One reviewer notes the manager explained that pies are cooked the day before and reheated.

“I had not been here for 57 years, its been extemded somewhat since it was "only" a cider house. Pleasantly surprised, excellent food, and the baguettes, you only needed half, daughter took two halves back for dinner with her husband. Wife and I now live in Spain, so doubtful if we shall re-visit, but if in UK, yes we shall.”

“Had a lovely canal side meal. Food was hot fresh and cooked beautifully. Guiness was cold and top quality. Quick food service and quiet tranquil surroundings. Will definitely return.”

“Third time to visit. Bar staff friendly and efficient, drinks inexpensive and a good selection to choose from. A nice pub. Restaurant staff were far from being friendly and welcoming, more like surly and sour faced. The chicken in the Balti was dry and stringy, but plentiful. However, served on a cold plate. My wife's tuna and jacket potato didn't match the menu description - no cherry tomatoes and no feta cheese, when asked the staff completely ignored my wife and she had to return twice to get a response - we don't have any, we might have some goats cheese instead. Cafe food but without any courtesy. On the plus side - a good sized car park”

“Thwaites acquired this Pub a few months ago. It was run down then, it's even worse now. The location is superb, right by the canal, but that's all that is good. The outside furniture is actually falling apart, the parasols tatty. Inside the carpet is seriously dirty and worn. Bar staff seem disinterested and slow. The last time we ate here my partner's curry was dry and my steak pie was rock solid, had to send it back. The manager apologised but excused that the pies are cooked the day before then reheated, not very hygienically acceptable. If you want a nice pint in a good location but with grotty, dirty fixtures, this might do. Otherwise avoid, it's fast becoming the grittiest pub in the Midlands.”

“We visited the Blue Bell Cider House for Sunday dinner today, and it was an absolute treat from start to finish. The Food: Simply delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection—exactly what you want from a proper Sunday roast. The Service: The staff were wonderful. They were incredibly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. The Atmosphere: A special shout-out to Michelle, the owner. She is incredibly nice and clearly doing a fantastic job running the place. You can tell there is a lot of heart being put into the business. We had a brilliant time and will definitely be back soon. Highly recommended if you’re looking for great food and a welcoming vibe!”
