About Ye Olde Saracen's Head
Ye Olde Saracen's Head is a pub on Balsall St in Coventry, just outside the village of Balsall Common. Dog owners can book a table for their visit, and dogs get treats. The kitchen serves fish and chips, and a steak pie is listed on the pub's website menu. A fixed-price lunch menu runs alongside a more varied main menu, and the bar pours drinks to go with the food. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own. The building has a low ceiling, and low tables can be set up inside.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the pies and steak, with an award winning steak pie called really good with lovely pastry, and another pie called the best ever pub pie. Others name a lamb shank where the meat fell off the bone, fish and chips in light crispy batter, salmon, and a veggie burger with extra fries, with several noting food arriving piping hot. Service draws repeated praise, with servers and a manager described as friendly, attentive and welcoming, including one who quickly set up a low table for an elderly guest. The complaints are specific. One family found the fries and onion rings cold and the meat feast pizza dry with barely any toppings, and said the bar staff were rude, though replacements followed. Another ordered steak medium and received it well done and chewy, with half a mushroom. A third called a roast dinner poor and the service slow, then was refunded but still charged for two soft drinks. Two reviewers mention signing up on the website and receiving a 40% off food code.

“George and Sarah are wonderful and made us feel so welcome. The food was excellent but the service and lovely conversation will keep us coming back. We ordered the veggie burger and extra fries and 3 glasses of Merlot wine. Thank you so much, Sharan xxx”

“Decided to visit the Ye Olde Saracen’s Head for my daughters 9th birthday. Lady behind the bar was rude, I asked for some menus and she said “Offers finish in 9 mins” not welcome, how are you not very polite what so ever. When we sat down the area smelt very odd like someone’s not cleaned the filters out on their vacuum cleaner. I ordered the following food, a cheese burger, meat feast pizza and two sides of onion rings and skin on chunky fries. To say we were disappointed is an understatement! Fries and onion rings were cold (Genuinely looked old and re-heated) the pizza was awful! You can buy better from Iceland! Very dry with no toppings, just dreadful! With drinks the total was £62.71p horrible experience! When the lady came over to ask if everything was ok, we politely told her how bad things were, I offered her a chip and she said “ Yes, they are cold aren’t they and not nice” To be honest she was lovely and very helpful and replaced the Onion rings and chips. All in all the food was awful, that’s being kind, genuinely feel robbed! Please think twice about going! To be honest, I didn’t expect anything other than the pathetic, lame excuse for an apology! Another generic comment, contempt for the paying customer! Rest assured we will never come back!”

“A huge shoutout to Georgina, our wonderful waitress this evening! She was absolutely brilliant from start to finish, super attentive, genuinely helpful, friendly and made us feel really well looked after throughout the evening. The service was fantastic, the food was lovely as always, and Georgina was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble, smiley, and she had such a lovely, genuine manner. And of course, I have to mention the Sonic tattoo — absolutely loved it! 💙🦔 It’s those little personal touches and people like Georgina that make you want to come back. Great food, great atmosphere and exceptional service. Please pass on our thanks to Georgina — she is an absolute credit to the team! ❤️ We’ll definitely be back! 4 card playing lunatics (who had the bottle card ?!?!)”

“Lovely meal with great service in a building full of character. Varied Menu and a fixed price lunch menu as well. Highly recommended.”

“Very poor. Service slow and unhelpful Roast dinner would not be served to my dog and the chef should be embarrassed to allow it to leave the kitchen. Meal was refunded but we were charged £7 for two soft drinks that would not have been purchased had we not visited the pub to eat. Could not fill out the section below of which food you would recommend as I would not recommend visiting here.”
