Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the riverside setting, from the patio and balcony to window tables where the river stayed beautiful even in heavy rain, plus the old mill's water wheel turning inside. Food is called delicious or good by most, and the tiramisu is singled out twice, one reviewer calling it the best they have had. Others name the dirty burger, the shrimp and crab pappardelle and a Cherry Sour cocktail a server recommended. Service is repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming, and one visitor says their dog was made to feel welcome. The sharpest complaint comes from a birthday lunch where half the menu, including a bitter, starters and mains, was unavailable and nobody said so up front, so one diner kept walking back from the bar to relay choices, and the pizza that was finally ordered arrived soggy. Another found everything except the tiramisu okay to good, and one warns of limited parking when busy. One reviewer caught live music on a Friday night.

“Had a lovely lunch at the Saxon Mill today. We’ve been many times over the years, but this was our first time sitting outside and it was absolutely glorious. Sunshine, a gentle breeze, the shade of the big trees and beautiful views over the river, perfect! The food was great as always and Maddie, our waitress, was brilliant. Service here is always very good. It was packed today, but that’s no surprise on such a lovely day. We even had plenty of paddleboarders going past to keep us entertained! Highly recommend we had a wonderful time and will definitely be back.”

“A beautiful setting for catching up with friends. We reserved a table on the riverside patio, which was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Inside, the building is full of character and charm, and it was lovely to see the old mill’s water wheel turning, adding to the unique atmosphere. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. We would happily return and highly recommend it.”

“Came here for a birthday lunch, having heard a lot of good things. The venue itself is stunning — among the most attractive pubs I’ve ever been to. The compliments end there. They didn’t have half the menu: bitter, starters, mains. I had to walk back from the bar FOUR times to tell my parents their choices weren’t available. Nobody thought to mention any of this up front. The food, when it came, was average at best. My mum eventually settled on pizza, which arrived soggy and poor. Clearly a beautiful venue, but management needs to up their game.”

“Had such a lovely meal at Saxon Mill with a gorgeous view looking over the riverside. Special shoutout to Dan who went above and beyond with the service, so friendly and welcoming. He recommended the dirty burger which we both loved, the tiramisu was also great!”
