About The Nevill Crest & Gun
The Nevill Crest & Gun is a pub on Eridge Rd in Tunbridge Wells, set in a timber-framed hall house more than 500 years old, where farm workers once shared their lodgings with their animals. The bar pours cask ales alongside a selection of beers. On the food side, the mushroom pasta dishes include a wild mushroom tagliatelle and a mushroom linguini with truffles. Dogs are welcome, so walkers can bring their companions along. A large car park serves drivers.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the food, naming the wild mushroom tagliatelle, mushroom linguini with truffles and a beef, ale and potato pie, with a Sunday roast and puddings such as raspberry arctic roll also singled out. One reviewer calls the portions just right, and another says the higher end pub prices are explained by the quality. Outdoor tables, a playground, a big garden and plenty of parking suit groups with kids and dogs, and the old building has a lit fireplace, though one regular finds it a little chilly in winter. One reviewer suggests booking after finding it busy midweek, and another could not get an inside seat at short notice for a large group. The main complaint is a dismissive response from a young bar staff member when one diner asked how a mother on a mobility scooter could reach the restaurant, which meant asking someone else. That same diner found the table staff courteous, and a waiter apologised for a late dessert and gave it on the house.

“Seemed very nice. Beautifully presented and welcoming. Just sad that we couldn't get a seat inside at short notice, but it was a large group. The owner was very reasonable and offered us seating outside. In somes ways a blessing, as the alternative pub offered sanitary products in the toilets and this one did not and I needed these in an emergency!”

“This is such a lovely place to meet up with friends and eat good quality food. Large car park. Eating available outside if warm or inside in a good traditional setting and atmosphere. Friendly and very helpful service. We had a lovely lunch yesterday for 9 of us. Thank you (only 4 for the food although delicious, it just wasn't quite hot enough, but it tasted very good) Thank you”

“Unfortunately, our first impression was disappointing and, at one point, almost made us decide to leave. My disabled mother was waiting outside in the hot sun in her mobility scooter, and I approached the bar staff simply to ask how she could access the restaurant. I appreciate that staff can be busy, but the initial response from a young staff member felt dismissive and unwelcoming, with little willingness to hear what I was actually asking. A simple “I’ll be with you in a minute” would have made all the difference. I ultimately had to ask another member of the bar staff for assistance before we were able to explain the situation and get my mother into the restaurant. Once we were finally seated we were able.to enjoy what was otherwise a very good meal. The food was excellent, and the more mature table staff were professional and courteous. Our waiter was particularly helpful, apologised for the delay with dessert and kindly offered it to us on the house. Overall, it was a mixed experience. The food and table service were very good, but the attitude we encountered from bar staff on arrival was disappointing and had a disproportionate effect on our first impression. Hopefully, some additional focus on customer service and accessibility would help ensure other guests receive a warmer welcome.”

“We visited for the first time yesterday, August 10th in the evening. Service was good and the food was hot and tasty. We would have no hesitation in recommending this venue !”

“Always a good meal and service here. Lovely portion sizes and excellent well cooked food. As regulars, staff often recognise and try to offer our preferred table which is a cut above customer service. All in all, a wonderful place to visit. Can sometimes be a little chilly in winter due to the old building but fireplace usually lit when its cold.”
