Quick info
About Opera House
Opera House is a Wetherspoon pub on Mount Pleasant Rd in Tunbridge Wells, set in a former opera house. The pub seating sits downstairs, while the upstairs stalls and boxes have been retained, and a big screen can be watched from the stalls for certain events. Breakfast runs through the morning, and tea and Lavazza coffee come with free refills. The food menu includes burgers and chips, a Ramen Bowl and katsu curry, with freshly made pizzas and vegetarian choices alongside. The bar pours real ales, craft beers and gins. It is walk-in only: find a table, order at the front and give your table number, and a waiter brings the food over. The menu is available by scanning a barcode or on a printed copy at each table. The station is a short walk away.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come above all for the former opera house itself, praising the ceiling, the preserved stalls and boxes upstairs, and the historic fittings as the most beautiful Spoons they have visited. Food is described as standard pub fare. One diner enjoyed the pasta with added chicken and maple bacon, while another found the salted caramel sticky pudding only ok. Free refills on coffee and tea are noted, and the breakfast is called ok. Service draws the most complaints. One reviewer describes tables piled with plates and sticky surfaces, plus a "not my problem" response when asking for a table to be wiped. Another waited 25 minutes for drinks, received a burger that was extremely rare, and found chicken strips and katsu curry unavailable. A third waited 20 minutes for food and mentions the men's toilet needing a clean. Others call the staff wonderful and hardworking, and one reviewer had a real ale that tasted end of the barrel replaced with good grace.

“Awful food, burger and chips were thrown together. One burger was extremely rare. Service time was extremely slow. 25 minutes for drinks to arrive, food arrived 3 minutes before the drinks. Most of the chicken options were unavailable , chicken strips, katsu curry etc”

“It's a classic "spoons" set in an absolutely beautiful building, if you visit dont forget to look up at the ceiling it's amazing. Set in an old opera house you are surrounded by a lot of historic looking items. Today was not that busy but my food took 20 minutes to get to my table which is a shame but the member of staff that served us was polite and apologetic for the wait. The place was mostly spotless except the men's toilet which could do with a little clean but was not horrendous. It's a couple minutes walk from the station. Overall definitely worth a look.”

“I enjoyed my last night here in Tunbridge Wells dining at this unique pub that’s also a former (and current February only) opera house ! So you find a table, you scan the barcode to see the menu, or there’s menu on each table; you order at the front and tell them the table number, you pay, and a waiter brings you the food. I had the salted caramel sticky pudding with vanilla ice cream , which was only ok. The coffee doesn’t matter if it’s latte or flat white, all free refill. Lots food options.”

“Another Spoons building with an interesting past. Located in the former opera house, this interior of this pub is quite something. The downstairs area is where all the pub seating is. Upstairs, the stalls and boxes have been retained and, for certain events) you can watch the big screen from a seat in the stalls. Food is obviously your normal standard fare. Definitely worth a visit if your in Tunbridge Wells just to see the building”

“Really wonderful, hardworking staff here. One of the real ales was a bit end of the barrel and was replaced with good grace. One of the best Spoons in the country.”
