  “Stopped in for a late lunch and felt unwelcome from the moment we stepped in the door. Two members of staff glared at us without saying a word before one was told to come and see us. Even then, the greeting was rude and it seemed like we were just an inconvenience for not booking. I wouldn’t mind, but it wasn’t even busy. Food portions are small in comparison to the size of the plate and I’m not sure I found any chicken in my chicken burger, it was mainly batter. The staff really need a lesson in customer service, if that had been good, I probably would have overlooked the disappointing food.”

  “When we first got there the waitress sighed and gave us attitude when arriving. The food took an hour to arrive, the roast portion was like a childs for £21.50, they didnt give the correct food when presented. The waitresses were grumpy, they put no effort into smiling or making themselves positive for the environment.”

  “The perfect place for a chilled Monday night social drink for our group. Friendly service from Rob, who has been very patient and accommodating with us when we turn up unannounced and the proceed to forget the time. A nice calm atmosphere, easy to have a good conversation, no loud music. Easy parking, nice outside seating area too, for the summer months. Good selection of drinks, including hands down the best lime & soda in Tonbridge :)”

  “Had a couple of drinks in the garden before heading inside for food. Drinks were nice, so were the staff and garden. When ordering food we asked for 2 glasses of fizz, we got flat wine, didn’t make a fuss so went to our table, the food turned up surprisingly quick which is a worry and unfortunately proved to be right the lamb which is advertised as “pink” was a horrible grey, overcooked and completely tasteless. We headed back out to the garden and the empty tables which were covered in dirty crockery and glasses before we went inside still hadn’t been cleared, the place wasn’t busy at all. It’s a shame ad we had been recommended by the place where we are staying to visit. No one came back to check if everything was ok at any point of our visit so no opportunity to raise the issues, we paid up and left but wouldn’t return”

  “We popped in for an evening meal after a day out. As always we was greeted with a friendly face. It was nice choosing from the new menu, Korean chicken was delicious. A big thank you to Sophie for making us smile 😃”

  “Very disappointing experience. The baby changing facilities/disabled toilet were out of order due to what appeared to be a leak in the ceiling, and the lights weren't working. When I asked a waitress where else I could change my 6-month-old baby, I was told to use a torch in the toilet. Aside from the fact that changing a baby while holding a torch is pretty much impossible, there was also a hole in the roof directly above the changing table, which made it feel completely unsafe. In the end, I had no choice but to change my baby in the boot of my car — twice. This was incredibly inconvenient and not what you'd expect from a family-friendly pub. The food wasn’t anything particularly special and certainly not worth the prices being charged. Service was also painfully slow, with little sense of urgency from the staff. To make matters worse, I asked to speak to the manager about the toilet situation, but nobody ever came to speak with me. Bit of a shame really as the pub is really lovely!”

  “I stopped by here last night for a quick bite to eat after a long day working as a sales rep. I chose the Vauxhall expecting the reliable standard of a normal chain pub, but the experience was awful from start to finish. When I walked in, there was nobody at the door to greet or seat guests. After looking around a messy restaurant area with no cutlery on the tables, I went to the bar to ask where to sit. The barmaid asked what I was looking for, and when I said food, she told me to wait for another member of staff. I stood by the till waiting, but nobody came. The original barmaid eventually came back down, looked toward the seating area, and abruptly told me I'd have to sit in the bar because there was no space in the restaurant—even though I was dining alone and just wanted a quick meal. Throughout this, I was made to feel completely unwelcome. I got the distinct impression I was being judged and looked down on because I was wearing a tracksuit after work. The same barmaid looked like she genuinely didn't want to serve me when I ordered. When the food arrived within 10 minutes, the waitress didn't even smile; she just plunked the plate down and walked off. For a pub that clearly thinks it’s a posh, high-end establishment, the service was shocking and the tables were a mess. To top it off, the fish and chips cost almost £24 and were absolute rubbish—the chips were burnt on the outside but completely hard and undercooked on the inside. Poor service, terrible food, and an uncomfortable, judgmental atmosphere. Total shambles.”

  “Very pleasant inside since the refurb. Had an enjoyable evening here, nice staff, decent food. Only issue is the size of the portions are pretty small. One teaspoon of mash and about 12 chips doesn't really touch the sides, I'd rather pay a couple of pounds more and feel full up!”

  “Overall good experience. I had booked with another pub for Mother’s Day but was let down last minute. Was able to get a Mother’s Day booking at the Vauxhall inn very last minute with a deposit. It was a Mother’s Day set menu however there were lots of options. £29 per person for the set menu, three course meal. With the booking we were asked to wait at the bar for a few minutes while they turned over tables. Although very busy the noise level was pleasant. We were also concerned that we wouldn’t be able to get what we wanted as our booking was at 4 we expected somethings to have been out of stock by then, based on reviews I had read but was pleasantly surprises everything was still available. Only downside of the menu was the soup of the day as it was only tomato soup. All of our meals: starter, main and deserts were lovely. Roasts could do with some more veg. Previous experiences were not pleasant due to previous management, as far as I am aware they have replaced and revamped the pub and it has all worked out for the better. Hopefully continues this way as we will be returning. Staff were all nice and pleasant despite the Mother’s Day rush. Some waiting on the food but this is expected and we did not feel rushed.”

  “My husband and I have been coming here for the past year and have to say it’s a bit hit and miss. They’ve recently refurbished the venue and whilst the decor and atmosphere is good, the food is lacking. We went on Sunday and said we don’t think we’ll be back. Our previous visits were poor, but Sunday was awful. Our starters were cold. I had the garlic mushrooms which looked curdled and had a weird fishy taste to them and the dish was tiny. It was also smothered in a basil oil which was so overpowering and I think it was vegetable oil and not olive oil. Our mains were ok but took 90 minutes to arrive and when they did, we were told our cauliflower cheese was going to be with us in 10 minutes as the chef had forgotten it. It was all warm but certainly not hot and all tasted like it had been sat for hours so I don’t know why it took so long to come out. The carrot and swede mash portion was laughable. I think it’s style over substance here unfortunately. The servers are always so welcoming and lovely, just a shame they have to suffer the complaints due to an incompetent chef(s).”
