Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the riverside beer garden, with its large play area and walks along the Mersey and Sale water park. Many also describe a dog friendly pub with water bowls and free dog treats at the bar. Staff are repeatedly called lovely and friendly, and the pool table, big screen for football and a decent pint of Guinness add to the proper pub atmosphere. Private party hire earns praise for easygoing organisation and buffet food. Food is the recurring complaint and opinion is split. Some enjoyed bacon cheese burgers, a chicken burger and fish and chips with mushy peas. Others report a dry week old pie, gravy thick enough to tarmac a driveway, soup resembling mashed potato, nachos made with Doritos, a burnt hamburger, dry roast chicken and inedible cauliflower cheese. One group waited over an hour and received only half their order, and a returning family found their children's favourites gone after the menu changed. One bartender recommended a drink called the love potion.

“Update: We visited after not being here for a while and the menu has completely changed. The favourites our kids used to have are no longer on there and nothing was available instead of chips. They need to go back to the old menu. We have been coming here on and off over many years. We love the rustic and homely feel of the place. The food is always amazing and the views are on par. This is a dog friendly pub which we also love, it's nice to see a venue that caters for dog owners because with the great walking trail that surrounds the pub it's easy to be able to nip in and have a drink without the worry of having your pet with you.”

“Really happy I ordered food from here the other day. I was a little sceptical due to the rating however, I ordered fish and chips with mushy peas and was pleasantly surprised. The fish was done really well with a light batter, along side plenty of chips and mushy peas, at a great price too. They even took the trouble to ask if I was enjoying my meal (Never happens anymore). Really good sized beer garden with large area for children to play, even a Jackson's boat. Very dog friendly. Lovely walks along the river Mersey and Sale water park. Would happily return for more. Thanks again.”

“Went to sale Water park for a walk with my dog the other day. Was delighted to stumble upon jacksons boat. A dog friendly pub with water bowls and doggie dinners. Staff were really nice. A big thank you to Jamie for his attitude and attention. Telling me about the free dog treats at the bar. Would recommend the chicken burger 10/10.”

“Just a quick shout out to all the staff that looked after us last week! They were quite clearly struggling with one thing or another, including a wait on food, grumpy customers and 30 odd degree heat! All that a side, the guys that served us delivered with a smile, banter behind the bar, and Joe who served our food went out of his way to make sure our little pup and us had everything thing we needed. Food was bang on, 2 bacon cheese burgers and chips for £15, they were delicious, and the rest of the food coming out looked great to. Not to mention a decent pint! Proper pub atmosphere, big screen for footy and they had a pool table. What's not to love, we will be back! Thanks guys!”

“The pub is lovely, gorgeous garden and play area. The staff were lovely too, very friendly. Unfortunately the food was awful. We waited over an hour, then only half an order came out. The quality was really poor...what shame. They are really missing a trick with the food. The menu was extremely limited. Then when it arrived it was very unpleasant, doritos with cheese sauce for nachos, a burnt hamburger, brown lettuce and generally poor quality. However the location and the staff are fabulous, will definitely go again, but will eat beforehand.”
