  “Great place for beer and food, we go here at least once a week. Ben is super helpful with the beers, always knows the new stouts coming in and what I like. Laura was super nice, replacing our drink when we spilled it (free of charge). Finally, Chris helped us with all dietary requirements we had and talked us through the menu! Would highly recommend”

  “Sunday roast knocked my socks off. My husband had a nice pint of Holts bitter. Real ale is crucial to a good meal out in the UK, but I have found the places where the casks are pumped may fall short of my culinary hopes—but not the Horse and Jockey! This place was so tasty. I ordered a bit more gravy and lapped up every drop with my beef roast. David pork was equally savoured. The veg—perfect! As importantly, the atmosphere is fantastic, including the views through low-slug historic windows onto Chorlton Green. It feels old, and it is, which impresses the visitors. And the staff is so lovely. I’m saving the best bit for last, really, because you don’t find such a warm welcome everywhere in Manchester (especially without a reservation on what became a busy Sunday afternoon). Francesca - in particular - took excellent care of us and really cared about our meal and experience. Thank you to her and to the Horse and Jockey, the pub that’s kind of saved the whole greater Manchester pub scene for us!”

  “We went to the Horse & Jockey today for the first time since it’s been done up. It was so lovely, the ambiance, service and food were all fab. It had a really cosy pub feel to it with delicious food. All the staff were really friendly and accommodating. Laura who served us was brilliant, she helped me decide between two dishes I was torn on. There is the option for your kid to build the pizza they choose before it’s cooked which is a great idea. It’s a dog friendly pub too which is always a bonus.”

  “Beautiful, clean and well designed space, very atmospheric and stylish. Bar staff were so friendly and welcoming, it was a treat. Food looked and smelled good, though we didn’t eat and drinks were great. The only thing I would improve is the outside benches are too narrow for a comfortable seating experience - even for narrow bums. Would absolutely visit again and highly recommend!”

  “Popped in on a Thursday and were seated immediately. Staff were lovely and friendly, but the live singer that was on was a tad on the loud side and a little grating. We ordered two cocktails, the fish and chips, and a sirloin steak medium-rare, with chips and peppercorn sauce. Came quite quickly. Drinks were nice enough. The server asked if we wanted any sauces - my fish and chips was listed on the menu as coming with tartare sauce but arrived with curry sauce instead, so I asked for the tartare - no problem there. But when my husband cut into his steak it was very rare. The server apologised and took it back, and then said they were cooking a new one and asked if my husband wanted another drink. We were unsure if this was going to be charged or given as compensation for the mistake, as the question was asked immediately after the apology, but he did want one anyway so asked for another cocktail. We were charged in the end - fine. We were worried about food wastage after we thought the server had said it was going to be a new steak but it did fortunately turn out to be the original steak, cooked more, however it was now medium instead of medium-rare but obviously he didn't send it back again. However it felt a bit mean that the chips were left on the table whilst he waited for his steak to be cooked further. They would have gone cold if he'd left them so he carried on eating them, but he'd eaten most of them by the time the steak returned so I gave him some of mine so he wasn't eating the steak on its own. My fish and chips was ok but I wasn't a fan of the mushy peas - they tasted a little odd, and the fish was fine but not amazing. Several of the chips seemed a tad overcooked (couldn't get my fork in them). I just don't think the price charged can be justified here - the steak was £29 on its own and the chips £5 and sauce £4. I'd expect to pay this in a dedicated steak house but not a pub when the quality of the cooking isn't at the same level.”

  “Stopped by for something to eat last Friday evening, just as a small group of 3 to celebrate the start of my birthday weekend. Food and service both amazing - special shout out to Francesca who made exceptional effort to make sure we were well looked after and enjoying ourselves (particularly with a little birthday cupcake, candle and handwritten birthday card - a super lovely touch) ♥️ Thank you!”

  “From the second we walked in every staff member was exceptional! Now that's what I call proper hospitality. Special shout out to Francesa for hosting us, no mean feat for a table of 12! Beautiful Sunday roast, great menu to chose from. Will definitely be back!”

  “Visited the Horse and Jockey for a birthday and was very, very impressed. All four of our party loved the experience and the meal. The steak was succulent, vegan offering far more interesting than what's on offer at other upscale establishments. Flavoured butter with sourdough was light and fluffy and the waitress even brought out a mini cake a birthday card from staff at the end of the meal. Best meal I've had in a long time. Will be back soon!”

  “Wow! Absolutely gorgeous meal. We are regulars at Black Friar so we were so excited to try here - and it did not disappoint! Gorgeous food, incredibly tasty. All wonderful but highlights definitely the pork tomahawk and chicken & pancetta pie. Also highly recommend the hispi cabbage - could have had several portions! Happy hour between 4-6.30 which is great value and we definitely made the most of. Huge shout out to our server Chris, he is a credit to the place - wonderful man, you’ll be very lucky if he’s looking after you when you visit! So attentive and welcoming. We’ll be back to try more of the menu!!”

  “We loved this place - the atmosphere is buzzing, food is fantastic and the service was 10/10! We had our dog with us, and the first thing our waiter did was bring her a bowl of water and a treat - without even needing to be asked. The food was not cheap, but so tasty and pretty hearty too. I’m told that local beers were top notch too. Booking definitely recommended!”
