Customer Review Summary
Diners return most for hearty, homemade pub food, with faggots, chips and peas named repeatedly as very tasty and the steak and ale pie close behind, described as tasty and good value. Also singled out are the cod, a Sunday small plate of mixed meats with Yorkshire pudding and crackling that arrived steaming hot, and a lasagne with the choice of chips or garlic bread. Portions are called generous, with smaller plates offered on some dishes, and the crunchie caramel sundae earns repeat mentions for dessert. Staff are described as friendly, polite and well organised, and the atmosphere as warm, relaxing and popular with locals. The main criticism is inconsistency in the kitchen. One reviewer found the garlic mushrooms had only two mushrooms in the sauce, the prawn cocktail watery, and the mixed grill meat cut very thin, though the same meal included a very good hunters chicken. One reviewer suggests asking for the dog friendly section when booking. Another, who normally cannot finish a plate of chips, cleared every one.

“First time there for Sunday lunch. Will definitely be going back. We had a small plate of mixed meats, which was plentiful, it came with chicken, pork and beef....Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and crackling. We had cabbage, carrots broccoli and cauliflower cheese. Everything you could tell was freshly prepared and it came to the table steaming hot. Staff were lovely, nothing too much trouble. Meal was very reasonable priced. Very enjoyable.”

“Recommended by Friends and have visited several times for food over the past few months and it never fails to disappoint. Service is excellent and so is the food, plenty of typical pub food, cooked really well, lots of flavour and great value for money. We had faggotts, chips and peas last night, very tasty butchers faggotts, lots of flavour, highly recommend them. Good choice of deserts for less than £6 per dish, our fav is the crunchie caramel sundae, were were well and truly stuffed after our puddings.”

“Been here a few times now and absolutely love it, the food & service is why we keep coming back. We opted for the faggots which was very tasty & plenty on your plate, for dessert the usual crunchy sundae as it's really good. A few Guinness and Doombar helped to wash it all down. Highly recommend a visit 😋”
