The Poplars Wingfield is an 18th-century country pub on Shop Ln in Trowbridge, with a campsite and a private cricket pitch that can be hired for events. Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most mentions, with diners calling the food excellent and one too full afterward to manage dessert. Close behind are the pub classics: pie of the day with chips, juicy rump steak cooked perfectly, shoulder of lamb, pork bites, and ham, egg and chips. Reviewers also praise the homemade desserts as worth saving room for. They describe a lovely traditional atmosphere, real ale served in a tankard, friendly and welcoming staff, and vegetarian, vegan and gluten free choices. Price is the main reservation. One reviewer dropped a star because Sunday lunch costs more than at many other places, and another calls it not the cheapest but fair for what is paid. One diner was warned on arrival of a long kitchen wait, though the food came sooner than estimated, and another found the early 90s music not to all tastes. Large parties report hot food without delays, and staff happily brought out cakes the group had brought and sang happy birthday.

“Went for Sunday lunch, really lovey food, staff were great, plenty of parking & nice atmosphere. Only reason I’ve given 4* is due to price. Food is quite expensive, £20-£22 for Sunday lunch which is abit above quite a lot of other places. But not a reason not to go back.”

“Booked a meal for 23 Adults and 3 Children to celebrate a 60th birthday and I can honestly say that the food was delicious and for the amount of people was delivered hot and without any delays. The staff were so helpful in sorting out three cakes Would totally recommend The Poplars Inn Not one single negative comment from anyone at the meal”

“Ate here as a large ish party for my grandmas birthday meal! Everyone enjoyed their food which came relatively quickly given the table size. My pork bites to start were delicious as was the ham egg and chips! Lots of veggie/vegan options too which catered for some of our party. They were also happy to bring out a cake we brought in and sing happy birthday.”

“Great classic English pub. Real ale served in a tankard. Pie of the day with chips was the simple English dish but done to a fantastic quality. Upon arrival, was immediately told that food orders would be around 1hr due to a busy kitchen. This shows they know what they are doing and take food prep seriously. They improved on this first estimate and the result was delicious food. Would not hesitate to visit again. Lovely traditional atmosphere. Early 90s music may not be to all tastes but it did not dominate, and that is sometimes an issue for me. Ample parking, good access for a large vehicle.”
