Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the food, with the belly of pork, the lamb shank and the fish and chips named as standouts, the last described as "more like whale and chips" for its size. Portions are repeatedly called generous and the value reasonable. Close behind is the friendly service, with several praising the servers, including one who made time to talk to grandchildren and staff who brought a bowl of water and treats for a dog. Also mentioned are the ham, egg and chips, the peri peri chicken, the sticky toffee pudding, a good children's menu, gluten free options for mains and desserts, and a 0% beer. One reviewer notes the pub is on the Cask Marque Ale Trail, and another praises the outdoor seating area at the front. Reviewers raise no real complaints. One notes the pub was busy with Christmas parties yet the wait was short and the food arrived hot, and another says they are already planning a return for a Sunday roast.

  • Lizzie Pow
“Went for a family meal this afternoon, and we had a great meal, and the service was great. Lady who was servings us (unfortunately didn’t get her name!) was really friendly & accommodating. Food was had was lovely and good value for money. Would definitely return!”
  • Mike Hadley
“Truly excellent. A warm welcome, staff friendly and efficient. And the food! What appeared on the menu as simply Lamb Shank and veg turned out to be the very best and generous dish I have had for a long time. Just wish I didn't live a hundred miles away, I'd live here!”
  • Chris Sanders
“On the Cask Marque Ale Trail, an assurance that the ale will be in prime condition. (it is worth a visit if only for that) The staff knew little about this, but they know a lot more now. But, as it happens, the pub has many other aspects in its favour. A well-appointed outdoor seating area to the front of building within a neatly kept floral area becomes a pleasant sun trap for most of the day. Although not tasted by this reviewer on this visit, the food being presented to others looked very appetising indeed. For those interested in history, the pub dates back to 1874, a scrolled picture opposite the bar going into more detail. Amiable serving staff makes the visit a pleasant visit for the passing patron.”
