Customer Review Summary
Pies are the most repeated draw at this Preston pub, with diners praising a steak and ale pie full of proper steak rather than fatty ends, and a cheese and onion pie one couple called the best they had tasted, served with a extra little gravy boat. Close behind is the Sunday lunch, where reviewers mention limitless yorkshire puddings and gravy, along with fish and chips and a tower burger. Staff are widely described as friendly and welcoming, and the pub is called quiet and well presented after its refurbishment. Local beers on tap get a nod too. The complaints are specific. One diner found a steak pie so hard they couldn't cut it and had that meal refunded, while another party said ribeye steaks were tasteless and cooked through, and two ciders tasted of soda. A family with an autistic child said their reserved table was not given on time despite empty tables nearby. Another reviewer noted slow waiting. One group had a bill discounted after an earlier disappointing meal.

“Had steak pie, think it was old.or.warmed for hours, couldn't stick the fork in or cut with a knife and fork it was that hard. Refunded the one meal, but to be honest just wasn't good enough. Food like that simply should not be sent out.”

“Reserved a table for half past 4 . Reserved for the reasons that we thought it would be very busy , and we have an autistic 4 year old who struggles with transitions and waiting in new places . Arrived at 4.30 to be told to grab a drink from the bar as the people on our table were just finishing up . Bear in mind the restaurant was not busy , with a 6 and numerous 4s free and set . I explained we’d booked for half 4 and my son couldn’t really wait . And was met with “ yeah well if you just get a drink at the bar and wait “ as my son started to go into a visible audible meltdown and my elderly parents left looking confused as we had booked !! Blonde waitress tried to tell me there were no other tables for 5. Even though the table next to us was a 6 , empty for the whole of our meal and was already set up and reserved ! Long and short of it was the waitress didn’t want to re set 2 tables . Which is fine , but then allow people to access the table they booked at the time they booked it ! Probably wouldn’t return tbh , which is a shame as the food was brilliant .”

“Came out on a hot day immediately tended to by staff who were very friendly especially the woman with red hair who came to our table she was so lovely and sweet. Food was amazing and drinks were refreshing. The atmosphere was quiet but nothing to feel isolated.”

“Took my mum there last week and had fish, chips and mushy peas, very hot (which my mum commented on as she loves her food to be scalding hot if possible), two small bones found in fish but overall very tasty. Came back today, slightly busier 12 ish on a Thursday afternoon but was hot weather. Tried the tower burger very delicious and my mum had the steak and ale pie, she commented how it was full of steak not fatty grizzly ends but actually nice steak. Very filling. Lovely service by the Irish man there and the young man who brought our food was very polite. Recommend if you like quiet area, hot tasty meal 😋 👌”
