About The Farmers Arms Great Eccleston
The Farmers Arms Great Eccleston is a village pub in Preston on Halsalls Square, with five open fires spread across two floors. The bar carries an extensive list of gins sourced from across the UK. In the kitchen, the Goan fish curry is a main, mussels appear among the starters, and traditional dishes such as gammon sit alongside them. A Sunday roast is also served. A darker snug sits away from the bar, while private dining and a large events space give groups room to gather. Dogs are welcome inside, with a water bowl and chews provided. Friday evenings bring live music.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly, attentive staff, who are praised for making occasions feel special, from a birthday celebration to a silver wedding anniversary with a drink on the house. Food comes close behind, with the mussels called the best one reviewer has had, alongside prawn and crayfish cocktails, fillet steaks, lamb shank, fritto misto and a Goan fish curry that two diners rate highly. The menu also draws praise for mixing traditional gammon, battered haddock and fish pie with chicken pot pie. Dog owners note a water bowl and a chew for their dogs, and one mentions live music on a Friday evening. The main reservations concern price and lighting. One reviewer felt cauliflower cheese should come with a Sunday roast rather than cost extra, and found starters and puddings on the high side. Another found the quieter snug too dark to read the menu and was moved to a brighter table. A winter discount, a table offered to a walk-in party of four for Sunday roast, and a moved table are the details diners recall.

“Fabulous service from Kieran who was friendly & accommodating in explaining the menu options, providing a water bowl for our dogs & moving us to a brighter lit table. We would have preferred to sit in the first option snug area as it was quieter, away from the bar & toilets where there was more room but it was a little too dark for us older folk to read the menu & eat! Other staff were also very polite & helpful. Food was excellent & beautifully presented - super fresh starters of mussels & prawn/crayfish cocktails followed by the best fillet steaks we've had in a while and a tasty Goan curry. It was nice to have a good menu selection of more traditional offerings such as gammon, battered haddock, fish pie, steaks and more unusual options of chicken pot pie & Goan fish curry. Unfortunately, we could not manage a dessert but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Farmers Arms.”

“Our party of four plus a dog arrived without making a booking on Sunday evening for a roast dinner. We we're greeted by lovely front of house staff with a smile. We were then taken to a table and the waiter gave our dog a chew. The service, staff and food were perfection. We'll definitely be going back there. Great experience.”
