About The Waterwitch
The Waterwitch is an independently owned gastropub on Canal Tow Path in Lancaster, with plenty of tables for eating right alongside the canal. The kitchen cooks a varied menu that includes fish and chips, a homemade steak pie and a cheeseburger. At the bar, the drinks list covers wine, cask ale, craft beers and gins, with a range of alcohol-free options beside them. Food and drinks are ordered and paid for at a single spot, and the same staff serve both, so a queue can form at the counter. The pub opens daily.

“Excellent place to eat, nice staff and excellent, hot and fresh food. Only negative was trying to pay, long queue to pay and staff on the till were serving the drinks for the people ordering food. Other staff were also serving the people who had just walked in for drinks. Took around 20 minutes to pay as was stood there waiting. Overall a beautiful place to eat. Maybe the food ordering and payment staff shouldn't also have to serve drinks at the same time if there is a big queue.”

“We went for lunch, sadly the kitchen was shut due to the heat which is fair. That's not the basis of my review. While looking for a table outside and asking if one was free we we're told in a very grumpy way that we were not allowed to put up the umbrellas as it was too windy, (there's barely a breeze). The girl in question was extremely rude and hostile. When asked why other tables had them up, her words were "they're all coming down soon " Great its 30c outside in glaring sun 🌞 We instead walked down to The White Cross where we are enjoying a refreshing couple of drinks, under an umberella . If you don't want to work in hospitality then don't.”

“Location is lovely as ever but it took 20 minutes to order food as the staff member taking food orders was also allowing customers to order drinks at the same spot and then serving them. Food came very quickly despite this, but our fish was raw in places and the batter still uncooked on the inside. No one came to check if all was OK with our food. When we told the staff member who cleared our table we got a ‘oh sorry about that’. Fish and chips is £18.50. Not good enough.”
