Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return for the Sunday roast, especially the roast beef, which comes with all the trimmings and a gravy one diner calls beautiful. Several say it is among the best roasts in the area, and one has rebooked for two more visits. Close behind are the pies, called epic by one regular, along with belly pork with crackling, lamb, and a prawn cocktail described as excellent. Puddings such as jam roly poly and sticky toffee also get a mention. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, with one visitor dining alone saying they were made comfortable and another noting a wheelchair user was accommodated well. The main complaint is the Steak & Potato Pie on a busy Father's Day, where one diner found the meat tough and dry and gave up on it. Another reviewer waited over an hour for food because of short staffing and a long bar queue. One diner who had walked out of another Otley venue found a table outside at The Roebuck and ended with coffees after Sunday lunch.

“First time here today (Father’s Day). We had a table reserved at 5.30 p.m. so a bit later in the day but it was still very busy. I was the only one out of the 3 of us to have a starter - Chicken Liver Parfait, which was okay but nothing to really write home about. On to the mains. My wife (roast beef dinner) and son (royal burger) said they enjoyed those and the roast beef dinner in particular looked the best of the main courses. In hindsight I should’ve gone for that. I ordered the ‘famous’ Steak & Potato Pie. It came out and looked impressive but unfortunately it was badly let down upon eating it. The meat was incredibly tough and dry. I gave up eventually but I just wasn’t enjoying it and did tell the waitress who gave the usual ‘thanks for the feedback’. I think to prepare for a busy day such as Father’s Day the pie had been cooked well in advance and then warmed up which is why the meat was so tough and dry. I guess if I returned on a normal day it would be bang on but at £20 a go I’m not going to take that chance. So, not the great first ever visit we’d hoped for but you don’t know until you try. On the plus side they missed a pint of the final bill.”

“Initially booked elsewhere in Otley and walked out due to the poor service prior to eating and found The Roebuck. We sat outside and had pre lunch drinks and shared the Prawn cocktail (excellent) and both had the beef, with a side of cauli and leek cheese, followed by jam roly poly and sticky toffee and coffees. If you haven’t tried this place, you need to give it serious consideration. The food was outstanding, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The service was first class. Will definitely be back ASAP. Thank you Kirsty and everyone that was working for rescuing our Sunday lunch plans.”
