About The Bartlewood Lodge Stonehouse

The Bartlewood Lodge Stonehouse is a pub on Dale Rd in Derby, with a food menu that runs from breakfast through carvery to roast dinners. The carvery uses a self-serve counter where staff carve the meat and change over the vegetable dishes, and cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets sit among the trimmings. Breakfast is all you can eat, with unlimited refills on tea and coffee. Bottomless pizza and prosecco is also offered. Tuesday is bike night every week, giving the pub a fixed weekly event, and a live band plays on the last Tuesday of the month. An upper seating area has numbered tables.

Customer Review Summary

The carvery is what most reviewers come for, and opinions split sharply. Fans describe moist, well-cooked meat, excellent gravy, Yorkshire puddings and pigs in blankets, with a good range of trimmings. Others found dry meat and chewy or overcooked veg. Cauliflower cheese draws the most specific complaints, called tasteless and watery by one diner and undercooked by another, who said the leeks were also undercooked. Close behind are the bottomless pizza and prosecco, which one reviewer called fabulous, though the prosecco was not free flowing. Riblets, a southern fried chicken burger and an all you can eat breakfast also earn praise, while one parent describes a kids chicken burger as dry and impossible to cut. Service draws warm comments from several, though one reviewer reports a surly carvery server, a dirty floor and uncleared tables, while another calls the place immaculate. One Too Good To Go buyer found no meat or gravy in the bag, just a roast potato and peas, and was asking for a refund.

“Had such a fantastic experience, and a huge part of that was thanks to Chloe, our waitress. She was absolutely brilliant from start to finish — friendly, attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming. Chloe made us feel really well looked after without ever being overbearing, and nothing was too much trouble. She had a great knowledge of the menu, was happy to make recommendations, and made the whole meal feel relaxed and enjoyable. It’s staff like Chloe who make you want to come back to a place. Excellent service, great atmosphere, and a lovely meal. She is a real credit to the pub and deserves recognition for the fantastic job she does. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”

“Carvery was incredible! Not something I usually order when I go out but really enjoyed this. Connor was super friendly serving the meat as well as another colleague who came to change over the veg dishes. Will definitely be coming back”

“Nice food. The Crispy looking roast potatoes arn't crispy, but still nice. The CrownCarvery when the first (i think) opened cost about 4.50 now its about 12.50. More on Sunday. But its better than the traditional meat and 3 veg! Take care, enjoy.”

“Came for the bottomless pizza and prosecco, the pizzas were amazing, prosecco not free flowing but we still had a lovely time and had been seating in an area the waitresses didn’t frequent, I think this was done intentionally so we didn’t get as many drinks as expected however for the price it’s excellent 💯 will be visiting again Second visit served by Millie absolutely exceptional-honestly the staff couldn’t do enough for us, pizza fabulous as always and very attentive staff highly recommended”

“We turned up and asked for a table, bearing in mind the car park was only a third full, to be told that we'd have to wait 20 minutes. I'd say 3/4 of the upper seating area was empty, I looked and the girl with dark hair, glasses and a sleeveless top saw my looking and read my expression and said we could sit at table 28. Well the floor hadn't been cleaned in a long time (picture attached). We had the carvery and it was poor to say the least. The meat was nice and the plain roast potatoes were ok but the rest was dire. Cauliflower cheese was tasteless and watery, veg cooked within and inch of its life, mashed potato thick and a tad lumpy. They do roast potatoes with Paprika on for some reason (no signs saying what it was so hopefully no one is allergic). I asked if there was any red cabbage as it said on the menu on top of the counter and a very surly girl, dark hair, glasses on her head, tattoo on her arm said it wasn't on. When asked for more roast potatoes she snapped at the boy young lad who served us the meat and said she'd do it and proceeded to change then over slamming the pots in and out of the heated area, no smile, nothing but bad service and very poor attitude! The counter had not been cleaned in hours as there was food all over where you place your plates to serve yourself. Several tables were still dirty around us and not cleaned or cleared. If they had a manager on last night they certainly hadn't got a grip of the staff. Really poor we won't return, the Carvery at Eaton Farm in Long Eaton is so much better and thats not great, so you can see how bad this was!”
