Quick info
About The Stags Head
The Stags Head is a pub in Northampton on High St, where a Sunday carvery offers a choice of beef, turkey and gammon. The vegetables come in heated trays, with stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and gravy alongside. The bar pours lagers and ciders on tap, plus cask ales that include Charles Wells beers such as Bombardier and a guest beer. Wines, gins and cocktails are also on the list. A separate restaurant sits alongside the bar, and a private dining room and a function room are available for groups and events such as birthdays, weddings, christenings and wakes. The team also caters for events off site. Musicians play in the back on live music nights. Dogs are welcome in the bar but not in the restaurant. A large car park sits at the rear.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere come up most, with reviewers singling out the real ales, especially the Charles Wells Bombardier, which one called excellent. A large garden for children is also praised, and one reviewer says drinks cost less than at the other village pub. Food draws mixed verdicts. One diner enjoyed the carvery beef and turkey and a vegan roasted Mediterranean vegetable tart, while another found the Sunday roast beef like boil in bag meat with roast potatoes that seemed shop bought, though the dessert was really good. Two reviewers say food is no longer served, one because there is no chef and one who made a wasted journey after menus on the website still listed it. Others fault the lounge for losing its open fire appeal under bright LED lights, the restaurant for being very cold with heaters off, and the music for being extremely loud for a village. A wake drew praise for plenty of tasty food and help with special diets, and a birthday table received complimentary prosecco.

“Booked as a venue for a wake. Emma and team did an amazing job. Couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating with special diets - there was plenty of food and it was all really tasty. So welcoming and friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this pub.”

“UPDATE August 2023. Such a shame. This pub is closed again after issues with the lease agreement between landlord and tenant. After a renovation and and enthusiastic land lady injecting some life and soul into the pub , we are once again closed!!! PREVIOUSLY. This pub has been transformed from a very run down pub to a very pleasant and friendly place to come and drink .The landlady has invested in the essentials to turn this place around. The next step is introducing food back , which I look forward to. The Halloween night was great with music in the back and we thoroughly enjoyed the musicians playing a few weeks ago. A great asset right on our doorstep. It just needs us all to support it .”

“We dined there to celebrate one of our friend's birthday. Apart from the pub, they have a restaurant section too. Very simple looking but we were the only party at that time and that was all we needed. As they noticed bday party we got complimentary prosecco which was a very nice gesture. The food was good, portions were ok. The only letdown was the heating, it was very cold. Clearly, the restaurant section is not used often and heaters were turned off. It didn't get any warmer with time and we left earlier than expected.”
