Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the duck, praised by several as well presented and cooked, with the wood pigeon and venison also named as part of an unusual game-led menu for a village pub. One reviewer recommends the chicken chorizo dish, and another calls the fish and chips a standout. Portions and value come up repeatedly, along with a cosy spot by the log burner and a garden with seating. Service is the recurring caveat and splits the reviews. Some describe polite, quick, attentive staff, while others report being forgotten. One says plates sat uncleared and the bill took so long they paid at the bar. Another was told to order at the bar even while seated in the garden, and a third describes a rude reply when asking for a drink and guests having to place the food on the table themselves. One reviewer found a rare fillet steak badly cooked. One couple, after the staff took their order, went to the bar for the water they had requested, and found staff chatting.

“Lovely food and pub, some great different options on the menu to your average pub and all cooked to a really high quality. We enjoyed the duck and wood pigeon. Will return.”

“Night didn't start well as when as for drinks to be told by a rude male member of staff ,we don't keep that. Food was very good but let down by the way it was brought to the table.not very happy having your guests or yourself placing the food on the table. There was plenty of space for this to be done in the correct manner think the staff had other things to do as wasn't even offer the desert menu or coffee. Was presented with the bill at approx 9.30 pm. So 40 pounds we saved.☹️☹️☹️☹️”

“Lovely old pub. Stopped in for a light bite at lunchtime. Friendly staff and quick service. Reasonably priced and we will definitely come back.”

“The place has an amazing atmosphere, outside seating, sometimes live music. The food was really good for the price. The only thing they do not know how to cook is a steak (ordered rare fillet with surf and turf and got the thing on the picture) I would not order it here again. The service could use improvement as well. Even though we were sitting in the garden I would expect to order at the table instead of being told to order at the bar. Noone came to ask if everything is ok once all the food was on the table and during the hour and half waiter came once to check if we need anything. I really wanted to give 5* but unfortunately it was lacking the 5* standard”

“We booked an early dinner following a matinee at the theatre to treat my parents. Food was excellent, dad had the duck and said it was a brilliant meal, best pub meal he'd had in such a long time. Equally, all other guests thoroughly enjoyed the food. Great presentation, great quality food, great taste. I recommend the chicken chorizo dish. Good value. Polite, attentive staff.”

“Steeped in history, The Old Cherry Tree is hidden away in the beautiful village of Great Houghton, Northamptonshire. A traditional pub, hidden in the countryside, with the most delicious food, changing seasonally and local ale. The pub is now under new management and looks forward to welcoming patrons as of the 4th September 2020.”
