Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is the most frequent draw at The Royal Oak, with reviewers praising crunchy roast potatoes, homemade pate and beautifully cooked meats. A cooked breakfast and a pie made with local cheese also get mentions, and several describe a short but varied menu with food that arrived swiftly and was well presented. Close behind is the beer, including a pint of Tring and a choice of ales under 4%, plus well served bitters. The garden gets repeated praise from families, who describe it as well fenced, with toys and sheep in the next field, and the bar and terrace are described as dog friendly. The main complaints concern the kitchen. One diner found the roast soaked in gravy despite asking for it separately, another found the steak fatty and felt staff were barely apologetic when it was pointed out, and a barbecue day offered little beyond a hot dog. Even so, reviewers describe friendly staff and regulars who have made friends at the bar, and one says all the plates came back clean.

“Really lovely pub. We visited on a sunny day and sat out in the generous garden. Fabulous for the kids, safe, toys and sheep in the next door field! The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The staff couldn't have been nicer so all in all a great experience.”

“This morning we had the pleasure of finding the best cooked breakfast establishment in Northampton to say it was perfect is an understatement, Top quality food, cooked and presented for a very very reasonable price. The interaction with all the staff members was very friendly and engaging. There is inside and outside seating so no issues whatever the weather. If you like a cooked breakfast I can promise you won’t be disappointed. 10/10 will definitely be back next week 👍”

“When we visited the pub , they were doing a bbq . Dont get me wrong the hot dog I had was nice , but very little else in the way of choice for a bbq . Staff we very friendly Lovely "country pub" feel inside and out . Sat in the garden which was nice . Overall would go back again if in the area .”

“We had a lovely meal here, all clean plates for mains and deserts. Good garden on a sunny day well fenced and easy to keep an eye on kids, well served bitters. Different offers on certain days. Good food would recommend.”

“Been a few times lovely, great food great service dog friendly in the bar and terrance and they serve a great Sunday lunch crunchy roast potatoes, lovely homemade pate, beautifully cooked meats, the service was spot on and they always try and accommodate tables. The only tiny downside the kitchen soaked the roast in gravy and if you been asked to serve separately please do as for me it made it too wet and I couldn’t eat something’s (texture issue) other than that perfect family run pub local ingredients and lovely staff”
