Customer Review Summary

Roast dinners anchor the praise, with roast lamb and a huge, very crispy Yorkshire pudding named most often, one reviewer noting four slices of lamb with vegetables. Close behind are a tender, perfectly cooked T-bone steak and the New Yorker burger with pastrami, while a smoked duck starter and an orange and passionfruit cheesecake also get mentions. Reviewers repeatedly call the service excellent, with friendly, welcoming staff and a cosy atmosphere. The criticism is specific. One reviewer says a man who seemed to be the owner ridiculed a group that had booked by phone, saying "is that it" over their drinks and sharer platters. Another found the food hit and miss, not cheap, short on vegetarian and vegan choices, and the dog policy unwelcoming. Minor notes include a strong clove taste on the carrots, an underdressed slaw, and salty fries. One family marking a 90th birthday describes food reaching about 25 people efficiently.

“Came for a Sunday lunch with my husband after a quick visit on a Friday night a few months prior and had a lovely meal. Food is excellent quality, service excellent, and it’s a beautifully done pub all round. Wish it was closer to home!”

“Booked on the phone for last Friday as previously I’ve attempted to go for food and they have been full. We ordered drinks and sharer platters to our surprise to be bizarrely ridiculed ‘Is that it?’ and ‘That’s not how we do bookings around here’ by a very rude gentleman who seemed to be the owner. Considering there was plenty of space outside and inside for food and our group spent over £100+ this was not a positive experience. Although the food was decent and the location great, I wouldn’t recommend visiting if service is something you care about!”

“Food was a bit on the hit and miss side, some was excellent, other dishes not so great. Not that cheap either. Vegetarian/Vegan selection not great either. Staff and atmosphere good, disappointing that there seems to be a very anti-dog policy here, that and the price/quality issue would probably put off a return visit sadly :(”
